There will be fun for the whole family at the Greene County Fair as children have the opportunity to enjoy many activities created for their amusement. The schedule includes a photo scavenger hunt, Ag Olympics, Fun Zone, an outdoor movie with Poppin’ Penelope’s magic and balloon creations, an Extravaganza, Share the Fun, Kids’ Pedal Pull, a tug of war, a youth dance, a pancake breakfast and the junior fair premium auction.
Those who like an intellectual challenge should be part of a photo scavenger hunt Wednesday, July 9. Even teenagers will have fun trying to find the hidden images. Students in grades 4-12 are invited to participate. The competition starts at 1 pm with prizes for winners.
The Ag Olympics will be held at the show ring Thursday, July 10, for all youth interested in putting their agriculture knowledge and skills to the test. Those wishing to participate can find the event at noon.
An outdoor movie will be shown north of Clover Hall Thursday at 8 pm. on Thursday. Prior to the movie, Poppin’ Penelope will perform her spectacular magic show.
Poppin’ Penelope will stroll the fairgrounds Friday, Saturday and Sunday making her intricate balloon masterpieces. Poppin’ Penelope, dressed in her unique 1950s flair, can twist balloons into almost any shape imaginable – flowers, ladybugs, frogs, skeletons, dragons and more! Her colorful creations are fun for all ages.
Penelope is a member of The Balloon Brigade of Omaha. With her unique sense of humor and vast encyclopedic balloon knowledge, she will quickly entrap the crowd in awe and amazement.
An Extravaganza will be available for children ages 3-10 to work off some of their extra energy while adults can take a breather. Activities will be stationed at Clover Hall on Friday from 2 to 3 pm.
Greenbrier 4-H members and leaders are hosting Fun Zone for youngsters. Youngsters can enjoy fun and games on Friday and Saturday from 3 to 5 pm at the Bike Trail Park on the west side of the fairgrounds. The club will also operate the Fun Zone on Saturday from 10 to 11 am.
The annual Kids’ Pedal Pull, sponsored by Greene County Farm Bureau, Breadeaux Pizza and Twiins’ Ice Cream Shoppe will be held Saturday, July 12, at noon for children ages 4-12. Participants must pull a 60 lb weighted sled with a pedal tractor to complete the challenge. All competitors will get a coupon for ice cream at Twiins’ Shoppe. Individual division winners will earn a small pizza from Breadeaux Pizza.
Share the Fun is a youth activity with 4-H members and others showing off their unique and varied talents. It will be held Saturday at 1 pm.
Youngsters can show off their strength and teamwork on Sunday at a tug of war contest, sponsored by Junction Food Producers 4-H Club. All youth are welcomed to join in trying to pull opponents across the line. Sign up is from 11 am to noon. The matches start up at 2:30 at the show ring.
A youth dance will be held Sunday from 8 to 10:30 pm after the Grand River Rodeo.
Monday morning opens at 7 an with a free pancake breakfast hosted by Greene County Chamber. The premium auction wraps up the fair at 8:30 am.
