Rams finish in second place in HOIAC softball

The Greene County Rams did what they could to find a tie for first place in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference by posting a 5-4 seventh-inning win over Nevada Monday in Jefferson. They also needed Colfax-Mingo to beat PCM. That didn’t happen. PCM’s 5-3 win over C-M put the Mustangs at 16-2 in the HOIAC and in first place. The Rams finished 15-3 in the conference and in second place.

Nevada, now with a 3-15 HOIAC record, was up 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs the Rams scored two runs on a Carleigh Paup fly ball the left fielder didn’t catch.

The Rams had 11 hits total, including two from Paup. Emma Saddoris started the Rams in the bottom of the first inning with a home run, her third for the season. She also had an infield single. Marissa Promes hit a double and a single and had one RBI. Bailey Godwin got an RBI with a base hit. Tressa Rasmussen had a double. Kayla Mobley, Sydney Koch and Hannah Onken all had base hits.

Promes pitched. She had eight strike outs and walked only the first batter of the game. She allowed three runs in the first inning and one in the eighth.

The Rams take a 24-7 record into the first found of Class 3A regional play in Wall Lake against 11th-rated East Sac County.
