A variety of activities and competitions are sure to keep fairgoers on their toes with excitement, including a cattle fitting competition, Chris Camp: The Whip Guy and the Whip Crackin’ Dare Devils, a baby contest, a watermelon eating contest, and a pair of barbecues.
A cattle fitting competition will be held on Thursday at the show ring for those wanting to challenge their expertise against others in their field. Competition starts at 2:30 pm.
The Whip Guy and his Musical Whips of Wonder promise “danger and thrills, excitement and laughter too! Witness death defying displays of courage and skill, with a thousand thrills in every show.” North America’s only family whip act guarantees a thrilling, family friendly show that always keeps audiences captivated and involved.
For the past 20 years, Chris Camp, aka the Whip Guy, has stunned audiences throughout the United States and overseas. He impressed the judges on America’s Got Talent and performed for producers of the Tonight Show. The native of Illinois also appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records: 2007 and Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

A beef barbecue starts a special Friday evening that features entertainment by Gunnar and the Grizzly Boys. Sponsored by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, the barbecue will include music by the Town & Country Band. The event will be held at the bus barn on the fairgrounds, with serving starting at 5:30 pm.
Baby contest registration begins at 9 am on Saturday. The little contestants will take the stage at Clover Hall to be judged at 9:30. Category One entries must be between newborn to 1 year old. Category Two is reserved for toddlers of 1 year and 1 day to 2 years of age. Category One will consist of these classes: Most Hair, Least Hair, Cutest Smile, Biggest Eyes, Chubbiest Cheeks and Most Resembles Another Family Member. Category Two: Chubbiest Cheeks, Most Talkative, Most Resembles Another Family Member, Best Outfit for Fair, Fastest Walker When Called by Parent and Most Attached to Favorite Object. Ages of children are as of July 1, 2014. Each child may enter up to three classes.
A watermelon eating contest will also be held on Saturday for those who think they have the stomach for the challenge, or just love the colorful fruit in general. All ages are welcome to participate in this deliciously messy challenge, starting at 3 pm at Clover Hall.
All that watermelon watching and eating will surely make folks hungry for some protein. A pork and lamb barbecue sponsored by the Greene County Pork Producers and the Greene County Lamb Producers will be served in the bus barn Saturday starting at 5:30 pm.
