The Greene County softball team came back from a 10-8 loss on the road to North Polk with a 7-0 win Thursday night at home vs Gilbert.
Ram pitcher Marissa Promes struck out the first 15 batters before Gilbert batter led off the sixth inning with a single by Serene Isenhart. Isenhart ran into a double play, as center fielder Tressa Rasmussen caught a shallow fly ball and threw to first, catching Isenhart away from the base. Promes then struck out the next four batters. For the game, Promes faced 21 batters and struck out 19 of them. Her season record stands at 178 strikeouts and 22 walks.
The Rams scored five runs in the first inning and scored one run in the second and the third innings. Junior Emma Saddoris hit her second home run of the season in the first inning. She added a double later in the game and had two RBI. Sophomore Carleigh Paup hit a triple and a double, and junior Emily Christensen hit a double and a single. Promes had three singles, and juniors Hannah Onken, Rasmussen, Bailey Godwin and Kayla Mobley all hit singles. Onken had three RBI for the night and Paup had two RBI.
The Rams are 23-7 overall and 14-3 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. They are 8-0 on their home field. They finish the regular season Monday at home vs Nevada.
