The monthly weather summary for June prepared by volunteer weather observer John Beltz verifies what area residents already know to be true: June was wet.
Beltz reports a total of 8.03 inches of rain in Jefferson for June, compared to the normal 4.67 inches. Not quite half of the total, 3.64 inches, fell in the last four days of the month. Beltz reports 1.34 inches of rain on June 27, .68 inch on June 28, 1.07 inches on June 29 and .55 inch on June 30.
According to Beltz, it rained 13 days in June. The heaviest rainfall was 1.63 inches on June 17. (Beltz’s readings are for the 24 hours ending at 6 am on the day noted.) More than an inch of rain, 1.18 inches, fell on June 4.
Beltz reports thunder on 11 days, although three of those thunder days there was no rain in Jefferson.
The high temperature for the month was 89 degrees on June 2. The high temperature was in the 80s 18 days in June, although it was 85 or warmer on only five of those days. Average high temperature in June is 81.6 degrees. Average high temperature for June 2014 was 79.9 degrees.
The average low temperature for the month was a little warmer than normal – 59.6 degrees compared to the normal average low of 58.2 degrees. Low temperature for the month was 48 degrees, reported on June 13 and June 14.
