The Greene County baseball and softball teams both won road games vs. Colfax-Mingo Monday evening.
The baseball game was a pitcher’s story, with junior Riah Nelsen striking out 16 batters, including 11 of the first 12 batters he faced. He hit three batters with pitches but walked none on balls. The Tigerhawks run was unearned on the one Ram error in the game.
The Rams had only two hits in the game, singles by Daric Whipple and Alex Rasmussen. They took advantage of four C-M errors.
The Rams are at 5-8 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 5-11 overall. The Tigerhawks are at 2-11 in the HOIAC.
The softball team improved its HOIAC record to 11-2 with its 1-0 victory.
The Rams had eight hits, but sharp fielding by the Tigerhawks resulted in three double plays. Sydney Koch hit a triple with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to put her in scoring position. Carleigh Paup hit a single and the Rams got the first and only run in the game.
Koch had two hits for the game, with a single along with her seventh inning triple. Marissa Promes, Emma Saddoris, Kayla Mobley, Emily Christensen and Hannah Onken all hit singles.
Promes is continuing her outstanding season on the pitching rubber. She had nine strikeouts and no walks. She allowed two hits.
The loss put Colfax-Mingo at 9-3 in the HOIAC.
