Sheriff badge freeFollowing are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, June 30: At 7:27 am, the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson police department responded to a domestic altercation involving someone reported being chased with a knife in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street in Jefferson. At 10:40 am a deputy was dispatched to R Avenue on 195th Street in Hardin Township to check the report of a small refrigerator being dumped in the ditch. At 8 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of 320th Street in Greenbrier Township for the report of two unknown pit bull dogs killing house cats and stalking cattle in a pasture. The dogs ran from the farm residence before the deputy’s arrival. At 9:44 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on County Road P-46 (W Ave) between 270th and 280th Streets north of Rippey. James Daniel Hick, 20, of Perry was southbound on P-46 when a deer ran into the roadway. Hick struck the deer. He was not injured but his 2000 Chevrolet Blazer sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage.

Sunday, June 29: At 11:23 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Highway 144 at Grand Junction. Breck William Wasmund, 52, of Sibley was westbound on Highway 30 when a deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Damage to Wasmund’s 2010 Ford F150 pickup truck was estimated to be $2500. The deer was killed upon impact and was removed from the roadway.

Saturday, June 28: At 3:12 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported one vehicle accident on Highway 4 near 260th Street just south of Jefferson. Keenan Lee Olson, 16, of Coon Rapids was southbound on Neola Avenue when due to extreme rainfall missed the curve and entered the ditch. Olson was not injured and her Saturn sustained no damage.

Friday, June 27: At 6 pm a deputy arrested Chance Able Kinne, 20, of Lake City on a Greene County warrant for a probation violation*.

Thursday, June 26: At 12:24 pm a deputy was advised by a Scranton resident that she received a phone call involving money being won through Publishers Clearing House. The call was a scam and the female did not buy a Wal-Mart money card and send the caller the numbers on the card as she was asked to do. At 1:44 pm a deputy while on routine patrol in Scranton was advised of two vehicles drag racing and driving carelessly around town. Vehicle descriptions were given and the drivers will be contacted by the sheriff’s office.

Wednesday, June 25: At 1:43 pm a deputy discovered that someone had spray painted the front headlight and corner panel of his patrol vehicle with black paint. The criminal mischief to his vehicle was investigated by the Jefferson police department and the paint was removed from the vehicle by the deputy. At 4:25 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of 215th Street in Bristol Township for a reported stray dog at that rural residence. The dog was transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson.

Monday, June 23: At 1:02 am a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction for the report of three youth in violation of the city curfew. All three youth were issued citations for curfew violations. At 8:28 am a deputy responded to a minor two vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 30 just west of F Ave near Scranton. Jake John Ball, 30, of Jefferson was westbound on Highway 30 following Tyler Michel Lizer, 27, of Badger. Lizer slowed and Ball was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the rear of his vehicle. Damage to Ball’s 2001 Ford Fiesta was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Lizer’s Ford F250 pickup truck was estimated at $1,500. The accident is under investigation. At 10:05 am a deputy and an Iowa State Patrol officer were dispatched to a reported one vehicle accident on Highway 4 just south of Jefferson near the Raccoon River bridge. Levi Eugene Dawson, 29, of Bagley was southbound when he reportedly fell asleep. He entered the west ditch and hit an embankment. His vehicle went airborne and flipped end over end several times before coming to rest on its roof. The Jefferson fire department assisted with extracting Dawson from his vehicle. Officers from the Jefferson fire department assisted with traffic control at the scene and with securing a landing site for a medical helicopter from Des Moines. Dawson was transported to a Des Moines hospital. Personnel from Greene County Emergency Medical Services were also at the scene. The accident is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. At 2:50 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of South 11th Street in Grand Junction for a dog that had bitten a neighbor’s dog. The larger aggressive dog was transported to the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic for observation and will not be allowed back into the city of Grand Junction due to its aggressive nature. At 6:53 pm a deputy spoke with a dog owner in Grand Junction about her dog being allowed to run at large and that citations will be issued if it continues. At 7:53 pm a deputy was advised by a Rippey resident that she was in possession of a large Husky dog that had come to her residence. She will be keeping the dog until an owner is located.

Sunday, June 22: At 5 am a deputy while on routine patrol initiated a traffic stop in Grand Junction and after an investigation arrested Thomas Launderville, 34, of Grand Junction for OWI 1st offense.* At 6:35 am, a deputy checked the report of an unoccupied vehicle in the ditch in the 1800 block of 240th Street in Junction Township. The accident is under investigation upon interviewing the driver when located. At 7:23 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of South 7th Street in Grand Junction to pick up a duffle bag that was discovered on the property. The deputy inventoried the property found inside the bag and logged it into evidence as found property. At 11:23 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with locating the driver of vehicle who had fled the scene after being involved in a single car accident in Jefferson.

Saturday, June 21: At 9:27 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction for a reported domestic assault call. After an investigation by the deputy, he subsequently arrested Christopher Adelbert Laurent, 45, of Grand Junction for domestic abuse assault, (class D felony), false imprisonment, (serious misdemeanor) and obstruction of emergency communications, (simple misdemeanor)*.

Friday, June 20: At 12:44 pm a deputy investigated a road rage concern from a female driver who was southbound on Highway 4 approaching the Highway 30 intersection. The female stated that the driver of a pickup truck began to tailgate and pull up beside her vehicle and brandish what she believes may have been a small hand gun. A description of the pickup and license plate number was provided to the deputy. At 1:23 pm the chief deputy spoke with a female resident in the 500 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction about the attempt of an out of state person trying unsuccessfully to obtain money by writing checks on her personal checking account.

Thursday, June 19: At 11:47 am a deputy checked a dog running at large near 19th and Sandoe streets in Grand Junction. The deputy was not able to capture the dog at that time. At 6:02 pm a deputy spoke to a dog owner in the 300 block of 3rd Street in Rippey about her dog running at large.

Wednesday, June 18: At 1:46 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with the apprehension a juvenile that fled on a bicycle and on foot from the officer. At 6:18 am a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 144 near 150th Street in Paton Township. Roger William Murray, 58, of Des Moines was southbound when a deer ran onto the roadway. Murray was not injured, but damage to his 2011 Dodge Durango was estimated at $5,000. The vehicle was towed from the scene. At 7:58 am the animal control deputy was advised of several dogs running at large in the 900 block of W Ave. in Junction Township. The dogs were not located by the control officer upon his arrival. At 1:16 pm, members of the Greene and Guthrie County sheriff’s offices, Department of Transportation enforcement  officers and road supervisors, Coon Rapids PD, Coon Rapids fire and rescue, Bayard fire and rescue and personnel from the Carroll County EMS were all dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident involving  a semi-tractor trailer striking a car at the intersection of County Road E-63 Street and Brentwood Ave in Willow Township. Britanny Ann Baumhover, 18, of Dedham was eastbound on E-63. Dwayne Jerald Rand, 61, of Waterloo was following her, driving a 2007 Mack semi tractor-trailer. Baumhover pulled off the roadway to make a U turn. Rand took evasive action but struck the front of Baumhover’s car as she turned back west. Baumhover was extricated from the vehicle and transported to St Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll for further evaluation. A passenger in her vehicle, Zena Ann Olberding, 18, of Carroll sustained minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene. Rand was not injured. All three were wearing seat belts and the airbags in Baumhover’s vehicle deployed. Baumhover’s 1999 Pontiac Bonneville was estimated to exceed value. Damage to Rand’s truck was estimated at $10,000. Citations will be issued pending further investigation. At 3:29 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief to playground equipment at the playground in Scranton. At 6:38 a deputy assisted the Department of Human Services with an investigation in Churdan.

Tuesday, June 17: At 6:45 am a deputy was dispatched to a report of cattle on the roadway near 210th Street and V Avenue east of Grand Junction. The owner of the cattle was contacted and placed the cattle back into the pasture. At 9:21 am the animal control deputy was advised of several dogs running at large near the city park in Churdan. The dogs were eventually returned to their owners. At 9:48 am the animal control deputy spoke with a resident in the 500 block of South 12th Street in Grand Junction about the neighbor’s dog encroaching onto her property. At 1:38 pm a deputy investigated the report of criminal mischief and theft of personal property from a camper that was parked at Squirrel Hollow Park. At 3 pm a female came to the Law Enforcement Center to speak with a deputy about the possibility of harassment charges being filed against a male subject in a child custody issue.

Monday, June 16: At 9:15 am dispatchers were advised of cattle along the roadway at 190th Street and L Ave in Bristol Township. The owner was located and placed the cattle back into the pasture. At 11:37 am a deputy investigated the reported theft of a package from a rural mail box in the 1200 block of 180th Street in Bristol Township. At 12:30 pm a dispatcher spoke by phone with a female caller from North Carolina who reported a pickup truck that is registered in her name and being used by unauthorized persons in Greene County. At 7:30 pm a deputy while on routine patrol near 283rd Street and Redwood Avenue in Jackson Township checked several male subjects under the river bridge and subsequently arrested Joshuah Jay Blumberg, 18, of Grand Junction on a warrant from Marshall County, MO, for a probation violation*. At 7:31 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of Main Street East in Grand Junction. At 8:12 pm a deputy spoke with a male subject about the possibility of harassment charges being filed against him if he does not stop calling another Grand Junction resident. At 10:23 pm a deputy while on routine patrol discovered a vehicle in the ditch on K Avenue between 250th and 260th Streets in Jackson Township. After an investigation by the deputy he arrested John Douglas Reed, 30, of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated (OWI) first offense, failure to maintain control, possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), possessing contraband within the jail  (class D felony) and possession of a controlled substance  (methamphetamine)*. At 11:35 pm  a resident from Dana advised a dispatcher of a power outage in Dana.

Sunday, June 15: At 12:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of E. Rebecca St. in Grand Junction to investigate a reported burglary and theft of stereo equipment and a wallet from a car parked at that location.           

Saturday, June 14: Routine activity reported.

Friday, June 13: At 11:55 am, the animal control deputy issued several citations to dog owners in Scranton for not registering their dogs with city hall and not possessing proper tags.

Thursday, June 12: At 5:13 am a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with locating two youth reported to be at Kelso Park. At 11:27 am the animal control deputy was unable to locate a reported dog running at large in Grand Junction. At 2 pm the animal control deputy issued two citations to dog owners in Scranton for unregistered dogs not having tags. At 6:53 pm a deputy located and transported a dog that was running at large in the 500 block of South 12th Street in Grand Junction. At 10:12 pm a deputy is investigated a harassment complaint in the 1800 block of 218th Street in Hardin Township.

Wednesday, June 11: At 12:49 pm the animal control deputy was advised of a dog running at large in Grand Junction. The dog was found a transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 9:32 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction for a reported hit and run traffic accident. After an investigation by the deputy it was determined that the damage to the car was precipitated by an ongoing altercation between two groups of individuals. The case is under investigation at this time with charges pending.

Tuesday, June 10: At 12:21 am a deputy responded to the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction for the report of several unknown males acting suspiciously around parked vehicles.  At 9:33 am a deputy assisted a probation officer with several residence checks in Churdan.

Monday, June 9: At 12:32 am a deputy checked the report of a rural resident hearing gunshots in the area of Redwood Avenue and 283rd Street in Junction Township. At 9:37 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident on County Road N-58 (A Ave) just north of County Road E-63 in Willow Township. Amanda Kay Sukovaty, 22, of Glidden was northbound on N-58 when her car entered the east ditch. Sukovaty was not injured but her 1990 Ford Tempo GL was estimated to be a total loss. The accident is still under investigation at this time. At 12:07 pm a deputy investigated a burglary and theft of personal property from a residence in the 700 block of Walnut Street in Scranton. At 8:23 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of 170th Street in Bristol Township to check the report of trespassing and vandalism to the residence and out buildings.

Sunday, June 8: At 10:29 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported vehicle that had driven into the ditch on Highway 30 west of Jefferson. The owner and driver of the vehicle, Daniel Longnecker of Carroll, was cited for failure to maintain control. Longnecker was not injured and the vehicle sustained little damage. At 2:10 pm a deputy was advised of cattle out on the roadway at County Road P-33 near Spring Lake Park. The owner soon arrived and placed the cattle back into the pasture. At 3:33 pm a deputy spoke with a Grand Junction resident in the 900 block of Main Street East about being attacked by a cat and the neighbor’s dog then killing the cat. The deputy advised the resident that it would be her responsibility for the cost to determine if the cat was rabid. At 11:04 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near B Ave west of Scranton involving Kelley Jean Malloy, 45, of West Des Moines. Mallow was eastbound when the deer ran onto the roadway and was struck. Malloy was not injured. Damage to her 2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was estimated at $5,500.

Saturday, June 7: At 6:17 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported one vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of County Roads E-18 and P-33 west of Paton. Upon the deputy’s arrival he found a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on its side with no driver present. The deputy contacted the truck owner, Paul Johnson Jr, 25, of Gowrie by telephone. Johnson told the deputy he was westbound on E-18 when he fell asleep and the truck entered the south ditch. Johnson was cited for failure to maintain control. The truck was estimated to be a total loss. At 12:27 pm a deputy assisted  JPD officer with a welfare check and the subsequent committal of a Jefferson resident. At 6:44 pm a deputy investigated the reported theft of a riding lawn mower from the 800 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. The mower was later recovered with many parts missing.

Friday, June 6: At 7:02 pm a deputy was advised and is investigating the theft of personal memorials from a grave site in the Grand Junction cemetery.

Thursday, June 5: At 10:42 pm a deputy was advised of a stray dog in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. The dog was transported to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 11:10 am a deputy and chief deputy Jack Williams investigated a reported ATV-car accident in the 1400 block of 100th St in Dawson Township. At 1:26 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of  Ave in Cedar Township for a reported burglary and theft of scrap iron. At 3 pm a Greene County resident reported at the LEC the possible theft of a hand gun from his residence. An investigation was initiated by the deputy. At 3:20 pm the animal control deputy picked up a stray cat in a trap in the 500 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 9:32 pm a deputy assisted with a traffic stop on Highway 30 near Sparky’s One Stop that was initiated by another law enforcement agency.

Wednesday, June 4: At 9:35 am a deputy was advised of a littering concern along the roadway in the 2100 block of 240th Street in Junction Township. The trash was recovered and the name of a possible suspect was found. At 10:30 am a deputy investigated the theft of 10 or 12 front tractor weights from a rural residence in the 200 block of 185th Street in Kendrick Township. The 50 lbs. Oliver tractor weights were thought to have been taken sometime after Memorial Day. At 3:53 pm a deputy was dispatched and investigated a gas drive off from the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey. A description of the vehicle was provided to law enforcement agencies contiguous to Greene County. At 5:05 pm the animal control deputy transported a stray dog from the 600 block of 18th Street N. in Grand Junction to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 11:11 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with finding three male juveniles that were reported to be brandishing air soft hand guns around the courthouse square in Jefferson. The males were found by the deputy and advised of the city ordinance on air soft firearms. The guns were confiscated as well as a backpack of red air soft ammunition.

Tuesday, June 3: At 8:30 am a deputy was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Scranton to investigate the possible theft of a purse. At 10:10 am the animal control deputy searched for a dog reported running at large in Paton. At 1 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson police department together executed a search warrant at the storage facility at 408 E. Highway 30. At 7:32 pm a deputy was advised of cattle on the roadway at Quaker Avenue near 295th Street in Grant Township. The owner of the cows arrived and helped place them back into the pasture.

Monday, June 2: At 11 am the animal control deputy responded to the 900 block of Grant Street in Scranton for a reported vicious dog call. At 12:56 pm a deputy assisted the Department of Human Services with a residence check in the 100 block of Vine Street in Cooper. The deputy later located the female in question after a traffic stop and subsequently arrested Robin Giovanni Simmon, 39, of Elkader for an outstanding arrest warrant from Clayton County. Two children that were in the vehicle were taken into protective custody. Simmon was also issued a citation for driving while suspended and booked into the Greene County Jail and is awaiting transport to Clayton County. At 11:46 pm 11:46 a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of 9th Street South in Grand Junction for a reported suspicious person in a vehicle harassing and stalking the resident.

Sunday, June 1: At 12:41 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction for a reported fight in progress. After an investigation by the deputy, charges for assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, criminal mischief and trespassing will be brought against Edward Eugene Goff, 36, of Jefferson.* At 2:05 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of State Street in Scranton for a reported dog bite to a person walking by the residence. The dog was later brought to the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic in Jefferson for observation. At 2:15 pm, the sheriff’s office was assisted by the Perry police department, Dallas County sheriff’s office and the Boone County sheriff’s office in executing a search warrant at two different locations in Perry. After an investigation and search of property, deputies subsequently arrested Brian Keith Dunlap, 39, of Perry for criminal mischief-second degree (class D felony) , two counts of burglary- third degree, (class D felony), ongoing criminal conduct, (class B felony), two counts of criminal mischief, (class D felony), two counts of burglary- third degree,(class D felony) and criminal mischief- second degree, (class D felony)*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
