The Greene County softball team followed up a crucial win vs PCM Friday with three wins Saturday in the W. Marshall tournament in State Center. The Rams scored a total of 34 runs Saturday and allowed opponents to score only six.
In the first game of the day, the Rams topped Wilton 12-1. Kayla Mobley hit a triple and a single and had three RBI. Marissa Promes had a double and two single and two RBI, and Tressa Rasmussen and Bailey Godwin both singled twice and had an RBI. Emily Christensen hit a single and drove in two runs, and Emma Tilley had an RBI.
Marissa Promes pitched vs. Wilton. She had eight strikeouts and no walks. She allowed one earned run on eight hits.
The Rams came out hitting in the second game against Des Moines Christian. Nine first inning runs put them on a trail that led to a 13-4 victory. Nine Rams – Marissa and Hannah Promes, Emma Saddoris, Mobley, Rasmussen, Christensen, Carleigh Paup, Sydney Koch and Hannah Onken – had a total of 16 hits, none more than a double. Of those batters, Christensen was the only one not to claim an RBI in the game.
McKenzie Dennhardt was on the pitching rubber for the Rams. She had two strikeouts and two walks. Three of the Lions’ runs were earned. The Lions got 11 hits.
The Rams finished the day winning vs the host West Marshall Trojans 9-1. The Rams had 12 hits, again, a potluck of singles and doubles. Christensen and Mobley had two RBI, Onken had three RBI, and Rasmussen had an RBI.
Marissa Promes pitched against West Marshall. She allowed seven hits and had 10 strikeouts and one walk. West Marshall’s lone run was unearned in the sixth inning.
The Ram are at 16-5 overall in softball. They return to conference play Monday on the road vs Colfax-Mingo. The Rams are 10-2 in the conference, while C-M is 8-2.
