The Greene County Rams split home games Wednesday evening vs the CMB Raiders.
In softball, the Rams prevailed 6-1 after putting together 13 hits, including three doubles, a triple and a home run. Junior Hannah Onken hit the homer in the fifth inning, after hitting a double in her turn at bat in the third inning. Junior Kayla Mobley had three hits and junior Marissa Promes had two hits. Junior Emily Christensen and sophomores Carleigh Paup and Sydney Koch all had hits for the evening.
Promes pitched the entire game, striking out 11 batters, walking no one, and allowing five hits. Promes has 56 strikeouts and five walks for the season.
The Rams are 4-1 in softball in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 5-3 overall.
The baseball team was as cold at the plate as the softball team was hot. The Rams lost 2-0 after taking 17 strikeouts from Raider pitcher Brady Stover. The game was scoreless until the sixth inning, when the Raiders scored both their runs.
Junior Jordan Challen was the only Ram to get a hit, a single to lead off the first inning. Five Rams got walks, but they didn’t combine for any runs across the plate.
Junior Riah Nelsen took the pitching loss. He threw eight strikeouts and one walk while allowing four hits. He had one balk that allowed a run to score.
The baseball team is 2-3 overall and in the HOIAC.
