The Rev. Dr. Carl C. Fickenscher II, PhD, will be the guest pastor for the 75th anniversary celebration worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson on Sunday, June 15.
Fickensher is dean of pastoral education and certification, professor of pastoral ministry and missions, and supervisor of the SMP program at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. He was influential in the pastoral education of Rev. Timothy Jones, the current pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is coming to Jefferson at the invitation of Pastor Jones and the congregation.
Fickensher received his bachelor of arts degree in political science and a master of business administration from Southern Methodist University. After working in business and politics, he earned his master of divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in 1984. Fickenscher pursued his doctoral degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, receiving a Ph.D. in homiletics in 1996, making him the first man in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) to hold a Ph.D. in that field.
Fickenscher is editor of Concordia Pulpit Resources and has published numerous articles, essays, sermons and curricular pieces. He is a member of the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations and represented the synod on its dialogue panel with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). He currently serves as chairman of the Society of Concordia Theological Faculties.
In 2005 Fickenscher traveled for LCMS World Relief to areas of India and Indonesia stricken by the tsunami and subsequent earthquakes. He is a strong supporter of the sanctity of human life and is a district pastoral advisor for Lutherans for Life.
A catered banquet and 75th anniversary program celebrating the past 75 years of Trinity Lutheran Church ,Growing Together in Christ’s Love is plannedat the Greene County Community Center to follow the 9:30 worship service at the church.
