Paton-Churdan High School and Greene County High School both held commencement exercises last Sunday afternoon.
At Paton-Churdan, Taylor Carroll (left) was honored as salutatorian and Emma Tilley (right) was valedictorian. There were nine members in the class.
Greene County High School’s commencement acknowledged both Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene traditions. The class of 2014 is the last class to receive J-S or East Greene diplomas. All 84 graduates wore black gowns, but the tassels on their caps were black and red for J-S students or green and white for East Greene students.
All future classes will receive Greene County High School diplomas.
Beginning with the class of 2014’s junior year, students from both schools attended school together in Jefferson, with the school renamed Greene County High School. Following J-S tradition, senior class president Karter Ruzicka gave a short speech. Following East Greene tradition, valedictorian Sean Kenan gave a short speech. Both students spoke of their experiences and the lessons they learned in bringing the two student bodies together.
East Greene board president Marc Hoffman and J-S board member Jeff Lamoureux presented diplomas.
