Memorial Day ceremonies are slated at several locations around the county next Monday, May 26.
In Jefferson: John Mobley will play Taps at a brief ceremony at the St Joseph Cemetery at 9:30 am. A ceremony will begin at 10:45 at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery. The Jefferson fire department will raise flags and the Greene County High School band will provide music. An address will be given by James O. Andrew. Joe Benson and Zach Neil will play Taps.
In Churdan: A ceremony will be held at the Highland Township Cemetery beginning at 9:30 am. American Legion Post 198 will present the colors and provide a fire squad. Music, including the traditional “Armed Forces Salute,” will be provided by the Town and Country Band.
In Scranton: The ceremony at the Scranton Township Cemetery begins at 9:45 am. Boy Scouts of Troop 534 will raise the flag and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Greene County HS band will provide music, as will vocalists Kallie Citurs and Logan Hoyt. Greene County HS 2014 graduate Gabe Bardole will be guest speaker. Rain location is the Scranton Community Center (former school gymnasium)
In Franklin Township: The Jamaica American Legion and auxiliary will hold Memorial Day services at St Mary Cemetery north of Jamaica at 10:15 am and at the Franklin Township Cemetery in Cooper at 11 am.
Dillavou Cemetery: A ceremony at the cemetery north of Ralston will be held at 2 pm. Bill Brown will be speaker. Rain location is the Ralston Community Church.
