Seniors who meet income guidelines can receive coupons redeemable for produce at farmers markets, including the Greene County farmers market Tuesdays on the east side of the courthouse in Jefferson.
Sign-up and distribution of farmers market senior coupons will take place Wednesday, June 4, and Friday, June 6, from 8 am to 1 pm at the Greenewood Community Center on Greenewood Road on the south edge of Jefferson.
The program is available to persons age 60 and older who are single with a yearly income less than $21,590 or married with a combined yearly income less than $29,901.
Persons will need to provide their birthdate and the last four digits of their Social Security number at the sign-up.
Coupons can be redeemed for produce at Iowa farmers markets through Oct. 31, 2014. Most vendors at the Greene County farmers market can accept the coupons. The local market opens its season Tuesday, June 3. The regular market will be Tuesdays from 4 to 6:30 pm on the east side of the courthouse.
