Months of planning by dozens of volunteers will culminate in the American Cancer Relay for Life of Greene County this Saturday at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.
Relay team check-in and walking, check-in for the Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk, luminaria sales, silent auction bidding and survivors/caregivers registration will all begin at 9:30 am. The group photo of cancer survivors will be taken at 10 am, and the survivors/caregivers walk will be at 10:20. The Color Out Cancer run/walk will start at the Community Center at 10:30.
The official welcome will be given by chairperson Peg Raney at 11:20, with colors presented by the VFW and the American Legion. Sponsors will be recognized at that time.
Serving for the Relay for Life barbecue will be from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The meal is sponsored by the Jefferson Fareway store and features hamburgers and pork burgers grilled by the Greene County Cattlemen. Members of Beta Sigma Phi will provide bars and serve the meal. Free will donations will be accepted.
Entertainment during the barbecue will include the Town and Country Band, dancers from Prairie Blue Creative Arts, scenes by History Boy Theatre Company, and the Rhythm Room Dancers.
Bidding at the silent auction will end at 1:15 pm, and high bidders and raffle winners will be announced at 1:45. An indoor luminaria ceremony will begin at 2 pm. Names of all those honored with luminarias will be read. Katie Leusink will be vocalist.
The last event for the day will be cancer survivor Sharon Stalder as a Fight Back speaker at 7 pm at Christ Lutheran Church.
