Work in in progress this week on replacing an existing water main on N. Wilson between Adams and McKinley Street in Jefferson. The project is a preliminary step toward the construction of a Hy-Vee grocery store slated to begin in late summer or early fall.
King Construction of Wall Lake had the low bid on the project. According to Jefferson city administrator Mike Palmer, the N. Wilson project has a cost of about $225,000 and will be paid for through tax increment financing (TIF). King Construction is also doing a $100,000 project on South St. That project is being paid for by local option sales and service tax funds. Bidding the two projects together gave the city a better price, Palmer said.
The N. Wilson project will provide the neighborhood with better water flow and water pressure, Palmer said.
