Summer internships available for college students from Greene County

College students who have graduated from a Greene County high schools and who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education are invited to apply for a paid summer internship program coordinated by the Greene County Extension office.

“The internship program links Greene County students with businesses and organizations in an effort to support our county small businesses and nonprofits through hands-on professional job experience,” said Michael Cooley, county Extension coordinator for Greene County Extension.  “In this way, we hope to encourage our college students to examine job opportunities that may be available to them in Greene County when they complete their education.”

Student applications will be accepted until April 18,  and will be followed by interviews with the applicants.  According to Cooley, there are a limited number of spots available, so interested candidates should apply as soon as possible.

Applications are available at the Extension office located at 104 West Washington in Jefferson, or students may complete the application electronically at www.extension.iastate.edu/greene, and email to Cooley at mcooley@iastate.edu or drop off at the Extension office.

Businesses interested in hosting a summer intern should contact Cooley for more information and a brief, one-page form to fill out.  The payroll for the student intern is fully reimbursed, so the cost to sponsor an intern is minimal.

This is the fourth year for the summer internship program which was launched in 2011 through a grant from the Greene County Community Foundation.  Greene County was one of five Iowa counties selected to receive this grant funding through the Iowa Microenterprise Assistance Program (IMAP) for projects that support microenterprise and small businesses in rural Iowa.
