HS students preparing for prom “Under the Sea”

Greene County High School juniors and their parents have spent the last several weeks planning and preparing for next Saturday’s junior-senior prom.

The prom committee has been creating decorations to transform the Elks lodge into and underwater adventure with an “Under the Sea” theme. Decorations will include a large underwater mural as a picture backdrop, a three-masted sunken ship, an octopus sitting atop a treasure chest, a large anchor, a ship’s wheel and even jelly fish.

Prom paintingPictured at a painting session (see the underwater background) are juniors (front, from left) Anna Kozal and Bailey Godwin; and (back, from left) Dan Neal, Molly Hoskins, Annie Palmer and Hannah Onken.

The lost city of Atlantis is the theme for the  prom banquet at the First United Methodist Church preceding prom. The Fellowship Hall will portray an ancient Greek columned building complete with pediment.

Prom go-ers return to the surface with a cruise ship theme for the after prom party at the middle school. A hypnotist, a paintless paintball obstacle course, and games (including bowling) are highlights.

The public is invited to see the decorations at all three venues from 3:30 to 4:30 Saturday afternoon. Cameras are welcome.

The traditional grand march will begin at 7:30 pm at the Greene County Community Center. In the event Mother Nature shares water from above (rain) before students go “Under the Sea,” the grand march will be held at the Community Center.
