The Jefferson city council at its March 25 regular meeting set new salary ranges for non-union city employees.
To come up with the ranges, city administrator Mike Palmer researched salaries paid in Iowa towns with populations comparable to Jefferson’s. “The ranges are on a par with other communities of our size,” said councilperson Shannon Black.
Salary ranges are:
City clerk: $45,090 – $53,047
Streets superintendent: $45,331 – $53,331
Sewer superintendent: $48,003 – $56,474
Water superintendent: $48,00 – $59,090
Librarian: $40,328 – $47,445
Park & recreation director: $41,223 – $48,498
Administrative assistant: $26,201 – $30,825
Building official: $45,000 – $55,437
Police chief: $54,536 – $64,161
City administrator: $78,169 – $91,964
According to city clerk Diane Kennedy, all current non-union employees’ salaries are within the range for their respective job.
