Roses are red. Violets are blue. Submit your own poems, And we’ll post them for you.
Since 1996, the Academy of American Poets has celebrated April as National Poetry Month. GreeneCountyNewsOnline will mark the month by posting readers’ original poetry as part of the Good News Sunday updates throughout the month.
Among the goals of the Academy in promoting National Poetry Month are to bring attention to the art of poetry and to living poets, and to introduce more Americans to the pleasures of reading poetry.
Greene County has many resident poets, some of whom are published, and others who are not. All are welcome to email original poetry to share with readers. In fact, all GreeneCountyNewsOnline readers are welcome.
Poets are asked to include their hometown when they submit poems, as that will be included. Email poems to news@greenecountynewsonline.com
And, here to prime the pump (as the saying goes) is an original poem by Kathy Hankel of Jefferson.
From Harjo to Bev to Me
The ancients that worshiped their ancestors knew what they were doing. | We carry the lived and unlived lives of our parents, grandparent, great-grandparents and beyond, beyond, beyond. |
