The Greene County Community Foundation will hold its annual Grant Awards Night Monday, March 31, at 7 pm at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall in Jefferson.
The Community Foundation will award $121,000 in grants to 27 recipients. A total of 37 grant applications seeing $256,800 were reviewed in February by about two dozen board members from all over the county.
The funds disbursed by the Community Foundation come from state gaming revenues available to non-gaming counties. Local donations to the Community Foundation go into an endowment fund. By law, the board can use no more than 5 percent of the endowment for local grants. Most years the board has not used endowment money for grants, but this year, due to the extreme interest and the worthiness of so many projects, the board maximized the amount of money it could distribute.
The public is invited to attend the Grant Awards Night. Light refreshments will be served.
