Many Greene County residents will be watching for news in the next few weeks of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision about a gaming license for the proposed Cedar Crossing casino in Cedar Rapids.
The Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation and Wild Rose Entertainment hope that the large voter turnout and the percent approval rating given the casino proposal in the referendum last August will sway the Racing and Gaming Commission when it decides in June whether it will grant a gaming license in Greene County.
The proposal was approved with a 75 percent “yes” vote. Voter turnout was more than in the 2010 gubernatorial election. The “yes’ vote can be considered by some to be even greater. Wild Rose Entertainment chief operating officer Tom Timmons said from his West Des Moines office two weeks ago that under Roberts Rules of Order, abstentions, or those who don’t vote, are considered to have voted with the majority.
