Dennis Morlan, Greene County director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, announced Monday that a weather spotter class will be offered in Jefferson Wednesday April 2, starting at 7 pm. The class will be hosted by the Jefferson fire department and will be presented in the city hall meeting room located at 220 N. Chestnut.
All members of regional fire departments, EMS units, law enforcement personnel, amateur radio operators, as well as the general public are encouraged and invited to attend this presentation.
The two hour class will be taught by personnel from the Des Moines National Weather Service. There is no cost to attend the class.
Morlan further advises that due to budget limitations at the National Weather Service, this class can only be offered in Iowa’s rural counties on a biannual basis. Morlan urges interested individuals to take advantage of this class as it will be 2016 before it is offered again.
Additional information regarding the spotter’s class may be obtained by calling Morlan at 515-386-2535.
