Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Monday, March 31: At 9:17 am a resident reported a scam letter he had received alleging he had won money in a Reader’s Digest sweepstakes. The letter included a check that he was to cash after he had called a phone number provided in the letter. As in most scams of this type, the resident would have been asked to cash the check and send a portion of the money to the sender, at which time the victim would discover the check had been issued on a non-existent account. At 7:23 pm an officer was called to Homestead Bakery for a report of harassment. A female had harassed employees over a Facebook post and later showed up at the bakery.
Sunday, March 30: At 9:54 am a caller reported a resident in the 400 block of W. Russell St was burning wooden pallets. The officer warned the residents that only yard waste can be burned within the city limits. At 7:43 pm an officer was requested at a residence to receive a report of a female taking items from a residence in the 800 block of Stanton St in Scranton. The officer gathered the information and forwarded it to the sheriff’s office, which provides law enforcement in Scranton. At 8:45 pm a complainant reported harassment and trespass by a former spouse in the 300 block of W. Lincoln Way. Both parties involved were advised to contact an attorney and the male was advised not to return to the residence or contact the female again. At 8:55 pm a complainant reported trespass and criminal mischief in the 1000 block of W. Adams. Pursuant to an investigation initiated Feb. 11 at Don’s Ace Hardware, a warrant has been issued charging Jody Lyn Schad, 38 of Jefferson with theft-fifth degree*. Schad allegedly altered the price of an item before purchasing it.
Saturday, March 29: At 4:01 pm a resident requested an officer pick up an abandoned scooter in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St. At 7:17 pm an officer performed a traffic stop in the 900 block of W. Harrison St on a driver who the officer knew to have had his driving privileges barred in the state of Iowa. Upon instructing the male he was under arrest and to exit the vehicle, the male led on foot and a chase ensued. the officer caught the subject and took him to the ground. The male was ordered to place his hands behind his back but he continued to resist the officer physically. The officer was able to handcuff the subject and take him into custody. The subject had three packages of white substance believed to be methamphetamine on his person. Additional drug related items were found in the vehicle. Brandon Gobble, 28, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with driving while barred, possession of marijuana-second offense and possession of methamphetamine- second offense, all aggravated misdemeanors, and interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors*. He was also cited for failure to prove security against liability.

Thursday, March 27: At 7:19 am a complainant reported harassment by a known person through phone calls and text messages. At 1:41 pm a complainant reported a transient soliciting money outside Casey’s (N. Elm). The officer identified the subject and suggested he proceed on his way.
Wednesday, March 26: At 11:09 am an officer took a report of trespass at a residence in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. At 4:28 pm a resident reported her neighbors were dumping leaves and trespassing in her yard in the 600 block of S. Oak St. At 9:53 pm a complainant reported harassment by a neighbor in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. Pursuant to a complaint filed March 21 at a residence in the 1000 block of W. Adams St, a warrant has been issued charging Steven Kolacia Jr, 39, of Jefferson with harassment-third degree, a simple misdemeanor.*
Tuesday, March 25: Between 1:49 pm and 3:39 pm officers received several incomplete 911 calls from a residence in the 400 block of E. Washington St. Each time the officer responded and was given a different explanation or making the call was denied. At 4:17 pm the officer arrested Steven Dzuris, 26, on a charge of making false reports or communications with public entities– simple misdemeanor.* Dzuris was transported to the Law Enforcement Center and booked into jail. At 10:38 pm staff at The Gardens reported lost or stolen property.
Monday, March 24: At 5:41 am staff at Greene County Medical Center reported a male had presented himself at the emergency room with a cut on his side. The male claimed the injury was accidental. The incident remains under investigation. At 3:07 pm Greene County Medical Center staff requested an officer at the ER for a male who was aggressive toward staff. The officer stood by and no intervention was needed. At 6:12 pm Kathleen Specht requested an officer to a residence in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Road to report harassment. Upon taking the complaint, the officer arrested Specht on an outstanding warrant for theft-fifth degree and transported her to the Law Enforcement Center.* At 7:32 pm staff at Iowa Methodist Medical Center contacted an officer to report a male had been stabbed with a knife by a female at a residence in the 300 block of S. Wilson. Upon talking to the officer the male changed his account of the events and stated the injury had been accidental. Without a cooperative witness the officer could not proceed with an investigation.
Sunday, March 23: Frederick James Lonsdale, 40, of Perry has been charged with burglary-third degree, operation without owner’s consent, driving while suspended and failure to give notice of address change.* The charges stem from an investigation initiated March 10 in the 100 block of S. Wilson when a vehicle was taken without the owner’s knowledge and later returned. Lonsdale remained held in the Greene County jail.
Saturday, March 22: Staff at Greene County Medical Center reported a possible intoxicated person in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way. The subject was not located. At 9:37 am a resident brought to the LEC a dog that had been found south of Jefferson on Highway 4. The officer took the dog to the animal shelter. At 12:25 pm a complainant reported the theft of a black 2006 Jeep Wrangler from Joe’s Body and Paint. At 3:58 pm an officer performed a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 1700 block of N. Elm. Upon completion of the traffic stop the officer attempted to back up to turn around but struck the concrete base to a light pole in the parking lot. An accident report was completed by a sheriff’s deputy. At 4:47 pm a complainant reported harassment by a known male in the 1000 block of W. Adams St. The male had been previously warned not to have contact with the complainant. Charges are pending.

Thursday, March 20: Pursuant to a complaint filed March 10, a warrant has been issued charging Eric Chrystal, 53, of Jefferson with harassment-third degree and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors.* The charges stem from an incident in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. Pursuant to a complaint filed March 14, a warrant has been issued charging Nastassia Goff, 29, of Jefferson with harassment-third degree and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors.* The charges stem from a complaint in the 300 block of S. Wilson St. After the completion of an investigation initiated March 6, a warrant has been issued charging Kathleen Specht, 54, of Jefferson with theft-fifth degree for an incident at Dollar General.*

Tuesday, March 18: At 7:59 am a complainant reported a burglary to a recreational vehicle in the 100 block of W. Madison. At 2:130 pm a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St. At 2:26 pm Tri County Lumber reported the theft of lumber that occurred the previous night. At 6:04 pm a complainant reported harassment by a male in the 1000 block of W. Adams St; the officer planned to follow up with the accused.
Monday, March 17: Pursuant to an investigation initiated Feb. 19, a warrant has been issued charging Frederick James Lonsdale, 40, of Jefferson with tampering with a witness– aggravated misdemeanor.*

Saturday, March 15: At 8:51 pm a complainant reported theft of medication for a residence in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St.
Friday, March 14: At 3:35 pm Angela Eberle reported a blue 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix had been struck in the Greene County High School parking lot while it was parked and unattended. A white vehicle had struck the vehicle, causing an estimated $300 in damage. The incident remains under investigation. At 4:28 pm a complainant reported harassment occurring in the 300 block of S. Wilson St. Charges are pending. At 5:08 pm a complainant reported harassment occurring at Casey’s (N. Elm). At 5:20 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office requested an officer watch for a red vehicle southbound on Highway 4 from Churdan; the driver had driven away without paying for gasoline. At 11:12 pm an officer was requested at an apartment at 1000 W. Adams St regarding a female in possession of a television that was thought to be stolen.
Thursday, March 13: At 3 pm a traffic stop in the 200 block of W. Harrison St. resulted in an officer arresting Reynaldo Jose Hernandez, 26, of Perry for driving while barred*; he was also cited for operation without registration. At 10:13 pm a complainant reported attempted identity theft through an email in the 400 block of N. Pinet St.
Wednesday, March 12: At 4:51 am staff at Sparyk’s One Stop reported a male passed out in a vehicle in front of the store. The officer found the vehicle running with a male sleeping in side. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Alex Dankel, 20, of Scranton for operating while under the influence (OWI)-first offense, possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol under age.* He was transported to the LEC and booked into the jail. At 7:045 pm a complainant reported a phone scam in which the caller claimed to be from Microsoft and attempted to solicit personal information.
Tuesday, March 11: At 9:08 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a yard in the 100 block of Harding Road. A vehicle had been driven from a neighboring property through the complainant’s yard, tearing up fresh seeding. The incident remains under investigation. At 2:27 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision on private property at Jerry’s Auto & More. Daniel Snyder backed up and struck the rear of a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville owned by Robin Hernandez. Damage to Snyder’s 1994 Pontiac Sunbird and Hernandez’s vehicle was minor. No citation was issued as most traffic offenses do not apply on private property.
Monday, March 10: At 11:23 am a complainant reported harassment in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. At 2:21 pm a complainant reported harassment in the 600 block of N. Olive St. At 3:53 pm an anonymous caller reported a male driving with a 2-year-old who was not secured in a car seat. Officers will watch for the subject. Since the complaint was anonymous, officers have to actually see an incident occurring before they can take any action. At 5:19 pm a complainant reported a male revving a motorcycle engine in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. Charges are pending. At 11:51 pm the Perry police department reported a gas drive-off at Kum and Go in Perry and asked for officers to look for the vehicle. The officer found the vehicle later in the night parked in the 100 block of S. Wilson. The officer contacted the owner and it was discovered the vehicle had been taken without permission and returned. The incident remains under investigation.
Sunday, March 9: At 12:40 am a traffic stop in the 200 block of E. Central Ave resulted in an officer arresting Mitchell Lyons, 24, of Denison for operating while under the influence (OWI)-first offense*; he was also cited for failure to maintain registration plate. At 9:26 am a complainant reported the theft of a cellular telephone from an apartment in the 300 block of S. Wilson St. At 11:55 am a complainant reported a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Heidi Kiner had been damaged in the right front corner while parked overnight at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Damage was estimated at $850. The incident remains under investigation.
Saturday, March 8: At 3:06 pm an officer arrested Nastasia Goff at Casey’s (E. Lincoln Way) on an outstanding warrant for probation violation. At 4 pm the US Postal Service reported an incident where a pit bull had been running at large menacing a postal carrier earlier in the day in the 200 block of E. McKinley St. the officer spoke to the resident regarding various ordinances pertaining to animals.
Friday, March 7: At 7:04 am an officer investigated a single vehicle collision at Central Ave and Mulberry St. Carlton Tapley was eastbound on Central when the vehicle had a mechanical issue. Tapley lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. Tapley was not injured. He was cited for failure to prove security against liability- accident related. Damage to his 1998 Ford Explorer was estimated at $1,500. At 10:09 am a resident of the 400 block of W. Greenewood Road reported harassing phone calls. At 11:55 am a resident turned in drug paraphernalia to an officer after it was left behind by a tenant in the 300 block of W. Washington St. At 1:11 pm a complainant reported a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot at Oly’s Corner. The officer found a male using the library’s wireless internet. At 1:59 pm personnel at Oly’s Corner requested the male be trespassed from the property. Officers found the male was out of gas. An officer provided the male enough money to remove his vehicle from the property and advised him not to return. At 7:06 pm a traffic stop on Highway 30 at M Ave west of Jefferson resulted in an officer arresting Donald Thorpe, 63, of Scranton for OWI-first offense*. He was also cited for driving on the wrong side of a two way highway. At 9:06 pm a complainant reported phone harassment at a residence in the 200 block of E. Adams St. At 11:11 pm a complainant reported the theft of a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck from behind A-1 Service Center. The vehicle was returned during the early morning house Sunday but was damaged. The incident remains under investigation.
Thursday, March 6: At 12:57 pm a complainant reported the theft of an iPad Mini from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of W. Lincoln Way. At 3:27 pm an officer was advised that a female for whom there is a valid arrest warrant was at Dollar General. An officer located Kathleen Specht in the parking lot there and arrested her for theft-fourth degree*. She was transported to the LEC where items concealed on her person that had been taken from Dollar General and not paid for were found. Additional charges are pending at this time. At 4:55 pm Richard Frye was placed under arrest after turning himself in at the LEC on a warrant for probation violation.*
Wednesday March 5: At 8:44 am an officer was requested by Juvenile Court Services to pick up two juvenile males and transport them to the Law Enforcement Center for transport to a juvenile detention facility. At 5:35 pm an officer performed a traffic stop at Mulberry and Highway 30 on a vehicle with no license plates. The officer learned there was an outstanding Webster County warrant for the driver, Kole Higgins, 19, of Grand Junction, on a charge of burglary-first degree*. Higgins was arrested and transported to the LEC to await pickup by Webster County officials.
Tuesday, March 4: At 11:48 am an officer took possession of possible drug paraphernalia found in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. At 1:17 pm a complainant reported harassment through text messages.
Monday, March 3: At 11:24 am a complainant reported the theft of a cell phone that occurred two months ago from an unknown location. At 1:17 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at N. Wilson and Reed St. Amanda Jewett was westbound on Reed. Heather McDowell was southbound on Wilson. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Jewett was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. Damage to her 2003 Town and County minivan was estimated at $1,000. McDowell was cited for failure to prove security against liability- accident related. Damage to her 1999 Pontiac Grand Am was also estimated at $1,000. At 3:08 pm a complainant reported receiving a harassing phone call at a residence in the 100 block of E. Russell St. At 5:48 pm an officer was advised of a noise complaint of loud vehicles and music in the 200 block of S. Walnut St.
Sunday, March 2: At 11:12 am Dawn Muhr reported a hit and run at the Greene County Fairgrounds. Muhr was preparing to back her vehicle from a parking stall when a male driving a newer Ford F150 pickup truck backed into the left side bumper of her vehicle. The man collected Muhr’s information and left the scene without giving her any of his information. Damage to Muhr’s 2010 Ford Flex was estimated at $200.The incident remains under investigation. At 2:47 pm the Jefferson fire department responded to a vehicle on fire in the driveway at 107 Lincoln Place. The 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier owned by Maryanne Sullivan of Scranton was a total loss. During the early morning hours of Feb. 28, March 1 and March 2 officer wrote a total of 17 citations for parking in violation of the snow ordinance.
Saturday, March 1: At 11:03 pm an officer reported a one vehicle accident that occurred in the 800 block of S. Elm St. Daric Whipple was northbound. He told the officer his vehicle started to veer to the left and when he corrected his steering he lost control on the ice/snow covered road. The vehicle did a 180-degree turn and went up onto the east shoulder, striking a mile marker sign. Damage to his 2001 Ford Excursion was estimated at $500. The sign was valued at $50.
