NOTE: MEETING CANCELED BASED ON WEATHER FORECAST.

MEETING  NOTICE: The  next meeting will be Saturday, March 1, at 10 am in the basement of the  Jefferson Public Library.  Our guest  will be Ron Gruber from Stuart.   Ron is the new regional representative for the Iowa Genealogical Society  (IGS) for Adair, Boone, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie and Madison counties. He will  share “Researching Iowa Veterans.”   He is currently working on a project with the American Legion.  Guests are always welcome.  Unfortunately, the elevator at the  library is not operating, so the meeting room is not handicapped accessible at  this time.

THANKS  JIM & JUDITH: Thanks  to local members Jim Lawton and Judith Runestad who have been our previous  regional representatives to IGS.  We  appreciate their time in attending IGS board meetings and keeping us  informed.

GREENE  GLEANINGS: We  launched the January 2014 edition of our newsletter last month after a three  year hiatus.  The response has been  very positive and we have received membership renewals from quite a few members  and former members.  Welcome  back!  If you have suggestions for  material you would like to see in the next issue, please share with  us.

QUERY: One  of our members – Mark Kemper, 702 W Mound St, Elmwood IL 61529, mkemper@elmnet.net – asked that we add to his research interest the names of Delilah Wright Allen  and Elizabeth Allen Hurley.  Of  particular interest is Hiram Allen who was a barber in Grand Junction.  He was near the age of Delilah Allen’s  son, Dr. Hiram Allen.  That Hiram  remained in Indiana.  Mr. Kemper  wonders if the Grand Junction Hiram could have known the Allens in Indiana and  came to Iowa at the time of Delilah and Elizabeth’s arrival.  He has done extensive research of the  Allens of Putnam County, IN, and would be interested in sharing information.

REFERENCE  LIBRARY: Hours  are Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 4 and Saturday mornings from 9 to 12.  Volunteers will assist you with any  research problems you may have.   Call Arlene  Johnson at 515-386-5431 just to make sure someone will be there.
