Scheuermann on winners’ side, Challen and Bradshaw in consolation bracket

First day of state wrestling tournament

Greene County senior Jeremy Scheuermann in the 152-lb weight class won in the opening round of 2A action in the state individual wrestling tournament Thursday with a 7-3 win over Tanner Hild of Webster City. His next opponent will be Sergeant Bluff-Luton senior Bret Tomoson. Scheurmann is at 42-5 on the season while Tomoson is 46-3.

Junior Jordan Challen (132) and sophomore Tommy Bradshaw (138) both lost their first match but won in the first consolation round. Challen lost 12-7 to Osage freshman Brock Jennings but topped Kade Steuhm of Solon 5-1. Challen takes a 37-7 record into the next round.

Bradshaw lost by fall in 2:47 to Bradley Conley of Mediapolis to start the tournament. He won a 17-2 technical fall over Tionte Parks of Assumption Davenport in the first consolation round. Bradshaw is now 41-3.

Senior Dylan Forkner closed his high school wrestling career with a pair of losses Thursday. He was 37-6 on the season.
