Voters in the Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene school districts will be asked to go to the polls in a special election Tuesday, April 1, to vote on a proposed Revenue Purpose Statement for funds from the 1-cent state sales tax for education (the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education, or SAVE, fund).
The Greene County board of education approved a resolution at its Feb. 12 meeting calling for the election. The election is a formality required by the reorganization of the J-S and EG districts. Both districts already have revenue statements in place. The resolution for the Greene County district duplicates and replaces those statements.
According to the resolution, SAVE funds can be used for property tax relief, various construction projects, purchasing or leasing equipment, emergency repairs needed as a result of natural disaster, or public recreation places, recreational activities or community education.
The complete resolution is available at the Greene County/J-S business office at the south grade building during normal business hours.
