The Greene County High School Special Olympics team proudly displays new shirts, courtesy of the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and ShineOn Designs – also of Jefferson.

The team competed at the North Central basketball competition held in Fort Dodge Feb. 6.  All divisions are separated by age, gender and skill ability.  The athletes took home the following places and ribbons:

Cole DeHoet,  1st place (16-21 male division)  Cole will go on to state competition at the  University of Iowa.

Kim Stanek, 1st place (16-21 female division)  Kim also qualified for state.

Rylie Breheny,  2nd place and Melissa Rice,  3rd place (16-21 female division).

Kourtlin Thacker and Nick Walsh, 3rd  (16-21 male division).

Danny Hulburt,  5th  (16-21 male division).

Makayla Murray,  6th  (16-21 female division.

The team was escorted by coaches Deb Rogers, Mona Weltz, Sue Lansman, and Jeri Gettler.  Accompanying the team were volunteers Tracy Burgart, Tanner Lange and Nicole Burton.

Parents that came to cheer the team on were Corey and Karibeth Baker (parents of Kourtlin Thacker), Keith and Linda Thacker (grandparents of Kourtlin), Alysha DeHoet (Cole’s mom) and his sister Cayla.  “The team had an awesome day and made their coaches and fans proud,” Rogers said.
