Schools across the state waited anxiously last week to find out where their football teams will be traveling for the next two years. The Iowa High School Athletic Association revealed the decision on Jan. 24.
Greene County jumped up a level and is in Class 3A for the next two years. The Rams will play Algona, Boone, Carroll, Humboldt, Perry and Webster City.
“District 2 is composed of teams from four different class 3A districts from last year plus us coming up from 2A,” explained Ram coach Dean Lansman. “While we have played Perry, Carroll and Boone within the last six years, it has been close to 20 years since we have played Webster City, Humboldt and Algona.
“I think the district will be pretty solid with five of the seven teams making the playoffs last season. Webster City, Humboldt and Carroll all have a very strong tradition of football. Boone and Perry have been solid the last two years as well in their tough districts,” added Lansman. “I also look for Algona to be better than their 2-7 record from a year ago.
“One good thing about the district will be the drive time. Our longest drive will only be an hour and a half compared to the two and a half hour trips the last four years to southwest Iowa,” continued Lansman. “Secondly, we will also be playing ninth and JV games against them as well which helps with not having to try and schedule those level of games.
“Our non-district opponents will be selected from the list of five teams I sent into the state. The state is hoping to have all schedules completed and released the week of February 24,” concluded Lansman. ~The Scranton Journal
