FEMA funds large part of amended revenue, expenditures
While the Greene County supervisors are working on the county’s budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1, they held a public hearing Monday to amend the current year budget.
County auditor Jane Heun often explains that in formulating a budget, she and the supervisors make their best estimations of what the coming year will bring. Budget amendments are needed so the budget more closely reflects the budget as the year progresses.
The Feb. 3 budget amendment to the FY 14 budget includes $278,418 in revenues and $382,817 in expenses.
Of the additional revenues, $249,068 is from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for repair following flooding last May and June. Expense items were added to reflect those repair projects, with the secondary roads department showing $156,707 in FEMA-funded projects and the conservation department showing $108,660.
As the changes are recorded on the budget form, the ending fund balance projected for June 30 increased $80,871 to $3,503,709.
