The Greene County girls tied two school records on the way to a 78-36 Heart of Iowa win over the South Hamilton Hawks. The Rams tied the record for 3-point shots with eight. Junior Emily Christensen scored five of the long shots as she scored a career high 23 points. Tressa Rasmussen, Stacy Mears and Kayla Mobley also scored 3-point baskets.
The Rams’ score was the third highest point total for 5-on-5 girls basketball at J-S, according to stats provided by head coach Chad Morton. All 11 players scored in the game during the Pink Out game; special activities were planned to raise funds and awareness of cancer. “I really like the girls’ unselfish play. Emily Christensen had a great game. I also enjoyed our bench being involved in the game,” Morton said.
Morton added that two autographed basketballs will be auctioned at the Jan. 31 home game.
The Ram girls are 8-6 in the HOIAC and 9-7 overall.
While the girls topped a team with a very modest season record, the boys fell to the HOIAC leaders. The Hawks’ win moved them up to 12-1 in the conference and 13-3 overall. The 75-62 loss puts the Ram boys at 4-9 in the conference and 5-9 overall.
Landon Braun led the boys in scoring with 18 points. Trey Tucker scored 13 and Mitchell Gorsuch scored 11. The boys made nine 3-point shots while the Hawks made seven.
