A good haul at the Community Center

DSCN1293Jefferson park and recreation director Vicky Lautner (left) and assistant director Libby Towers (center) pushed a very full, very heavy grocery cart of non-perishable items from the Greene County Community Center to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center food pantry last week. Nearly 300 items were donated in lieu of non-member daily fees at the Community Center from Dec. 23-Jan. 3.

ARC volunteer director Dianne Blackmer (right) helped sort the items.

This was the second year the park and recreation department has swapped donations for recreation over the holidays. “It’s a great addition to the holidays at the rec center,” Lautner said. “We have kids come in during the school break who don’t usually get to use the facility, and several of our members bring in their kids and grandkids while they’re here for a visit. We boost our usage, and the food pantry restocks its shelves. Everyone wins.”

Lautner said she and Towers appreciate the support of the park and recreation board in projects that benefit the entire community.
