The Greene County board of supervisors at its regular Dec. 30 meeting approved seven one-mile stretches of roads not to be plowed this winter. County engineer Wade Weiss recommended eight stretches be added to the no-plow list earlier in December. There are no residents on those stretches of road. The roads are narrow and very difficult to plow, Weiss said.
No-plow roads include G Ave between 120th and 130th St, and 120th St between Falcon and G Ave in Cedar Township; W Ave between 130th St and 140th St in Paton Township; C Ave between 230th and 240th St in Scranton Township; 305th St between K and L Ave and 320th St between County Road P-14 and L Ave in Greenbrier Township; and X Ave between 250th and 260th St in Junction Township. There are a few livestock confinement buildings on those stretches of road. The list is tentative at this time. A stretch of 280th St between I and H Ave in Jackson Township was taken from Weiss’ earlier list.
Signs will be posted alerting motorists that roads have not been plowed.
No estimate of cost savings is available because the cost of snow removal is dependent on the weather. it is unknown how much snow will fall this winter.
Last winter the supervisors approved seven one-mile sections for no snow removal. The seven sections approved Monday brings the total to 14.
