The Jefferson park and recreation department staff is bringing back last year’s very successful food drive during the holidays, Dec. 23-Jan. 3. In lieu of the daily pass for non-members, admission to the Greene County Community Center is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item. All items will be taken to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center. No donation will be requested Jan. 4-5 as the community center hosts the annual free weekend.
Jefferson park and recreation staff has scheduled events for youngsters to stay busy and active over the winter break. All events are free. Information follows:
Minute to Win It- Join others at the GCCC on Monday, Dec. 30, at 1:30 pm for Minute to Win It. Similar to the game show, participants will be given challenges to complete in under a minute. Prizes will be awarded.
Sledding trip- Children are invited to go sledding at Seven Hills County Park on Thursday, Jan. 2. Free transportation will be provided with the bus leaving at 1:30 pm from the GCCC. Youth should bring their own sleds. Participants are asked to register for transportation so staff can plan accordingly. The bus will return at 4 pm. Children second grade and younger must be accompanied by someone 14 years or older. At least 4 inches of snow is needed for event to be held.
Broomball party- Youngsters are invited to spend time at the ice rink in Chautauqua Park. No skates are needed to play the sport of broomball, but players should bring their own broom. Games will begin at 1:30 pm on Friday, Jan. 3. This event will depend on the weather and availability of the ice rink.
