Local competition for the 68th annual Elks “Hoop Shoot,” the national free throw contest for youngsters ages 8 through 13, will be held at the Jefferson-Scranton Middle School gym on Saturday, Jan. 4. Registration begins at 9:15 am with the competition beginning at 10 am.
Greene County and Glidden-Ralston youngsters have been competing in their P.E. classes to send winners to the Saturday competition. Those youngsters from Paton-Churdan or any other school district, who did not compete at school, as well as home-schooled students, are welcome to participate. All participants are reminded to bring a copy of their birth certificate.
More than 3 million youngsters throughout the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls ages 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girls in each age group with the best scores advance to the district contest. The district contest will be held in Storm Lake, Saturday, January 18th.
