The Jefferson park and recreation department will host Itty Bitty New Year, a New Year’s celebration for youngsters age 4-6, Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 11 am to 12:30 pm at the Greene County Community Center. The party will include crafts, games, and a 12 (noon) countdown to the new year. Pre-registration is suggested, as space is limited to 20 children.
Registrations are now being accepted for a pair of youth sports activities. Boys and girls in kindergarten are invited to participate in the Tot Shot program Saturdays, Jan. 4, 11, and 18 from 9 to 9:45 am at Jefferson-Scranton elementary. Youngsters will have fun playing games and learning the fundamentals of basketball. Backboards will be lowered and smaller balls will be used.
The youth volleyball program is designed for children in grades K-6. Three different schedules are planned. Children in grades K-2 will meet Mondays, Jan. 6-27, from 3:45 to 4:45 pm at the J-S elementary gym. Children in grades 3-4 will meet Saturdays, Jan. 4-25, from 9 to 10 am at the community center. Fifth and sixth graders will follow from 10 to 11 am. All classes will be led by Greene County head volleyball coach Donna Carhill, staff and players.
For adults, registrations for the winter coed volleyball league are due Dec. 27. The league will play Sundays, Jan. 5-March 9, at the community center. Games will begin at 4:30 and finish by 7:30 pm.
