Bell ringers are manning their posts and small buckets adorn convenience store counters in the Salvation Army’s Christmas kettle campaign. The campaign continues through Dec. 21, with a goal to raise $9,000.

Last year, more than $7,500 was raised. Since 90 percent of all donations return to Greene County, that means in excess of $7,000 was available to help families in crisis. The money is used for disaster services, groceries, and other types of aid that meets the criteria of the Salvation Army.

The local committee includes the Rev Dan Emmert, Hollie Roberts, Tim Christensen, Vern Foje, the Rev Debbie Griffin and Bill Monroe. Organizations assisting are the Kiwanis, Aktion and Grand Junction Lions clubs, Horizons, the Masons, the Grand Junction Presbyterian Church, and Central Christian, Christ Lutheran, Gospel Open Bible, First United Methodist and First Presbyterian churches, all of Jefferson.

Resident are encouraged to give generously and often to this worthy cause. “You may be helping your neighbor, or even yourself,” a spokesperson said.
