More than a week after a pair of teens led a police officer on a chase that hit speeds up to 134 mph, the name of one of the teens involved has not been released.
The chase took place last Monday, Nov. 18. It started in Slifer in Webster County at 7:15 am when a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant was clocked traveling 103 mph. An Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement officer started a pursuit. The pursuit was ended when it approached Jefferson-Scranton elementary school during the high traffic period at the start of the school day. The school was on lock down for about an hour as a safety precaution.
Multiple calls were received at the Law Enforcment Center that two males were seen running from the car and into a house in the 600 block of S. Olive St. Several officers responded and began a search of the neighborhood. Permission was given to search the house, and Blythe Eversole, 16, of Jefferson was arrested. He was charged with eluding, a class D felony, and turned over to juvenile court authorities.
The second teen has not been identified nor charged as of Nov. 26. According to investigating officer William Perez of the DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement unit, the case remains under investigation. Perez declined to name a suspect.
