Happy birthday to George Gallup, born in Jefferson Nov. 18, 1901. Gallup put Jefferson on the map by pioneering in scientific polling techniques, and his name became a household word for opinion polls. His boyhood home, an octagon-shaped house on S. Chestnut St, is on the National Register of Historic Places and is now owned by Gallup and Robinson. Gallup died July 26, 1984, in Switzerland. He is buried in Princeton, NJ.
