Greene County Extension will host several continuing instructional courses (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators in November and December. All courses will be held at the Greene County Extension office in Jefferson. The training is required to be completed by the end of the year in order to maintain commercial certification with the State of Iowa.
A Commercial Ag Weed, Insect, and Plant Disease Management applicator recertification course will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Categories for continuing instructional credit include 1A – Agricultural Weed, 1B – Agricultural Insect, 1C – Agricultural Crop Disease, and 10 – Demonstration and Research. This training will include topics such as pesticide handling; personal protective equipment; pests, pest management and pesticides; and pesticide stewardship.
Continuing instructional credit for fumigation applicators will be held Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Individuals who are certified through the State of Iowa for pesticide application in Category 7C – Fumigation and Category 10 – Demonstration and Research, will cover topics including safe handling of phosphine; pest identification; effective grain fumigation; and laws and regulations.
The session for pest control operators will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The course will provide continuing instructional credit for commercial pesticide applicators in categories 7A – General and Household Pest, 7B – Termite, 8 – Public Health, and 10 – Research and Demonstration. Topics covered include bed bug and termite treatment options; rodent control; ant baiting; safe wildlife management; and Iowa pesticide laws and regulations.
Pre-registration is preferred for each course, with the pre-registration deadline of 4:30 p.m. the day before the training. A late fee will be charged for registrations at the door.
