In Greene County magistrate court disposition was entered June 20 in a case against Jessica Ann Marie Kelton of Jefferson on a charge of interference with official acts. Kelton was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay restitution not to exceed $300 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $60 court costs. Greene County district court, week ending June 14

In Greene County district court Adam James Stilson, 20, of Polk City was granted a deferred judgment June 8 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of aid or abet threatening intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He was placed on probation for two years. A civil penalty of $750 was suspended. Stilson must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $2,000, victim restitution to be determined, and $182.54 court costs. Charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon to injure/provoke fear, harassment- first degree, criminal mischief- third degree, and reckless use of firearm causing property damage were dismissed. Greene County magistrate court, week ending June 14

District court judge the Honorable Joseph B. McCarville on June 8 sentenced Courtney Lynn Morlan of Jefferson to seven days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- fifth degree in magistrate court. She must pay sheriff’s room and board charges for the time she serves. She was also fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 court costs. Jame Exline guilty of two counts of sex abuse

In a jury trial moved to the Bremer County courthouse in Waverly, James Hubert Exline, 47, of Jefferson was found guilty June 6 of one count of sex abuse sex abuse- second degree and one county of sex abuse- third degree.

Jury selection began Monday. After hearing testimony on Tuesday, the jury deliberated for 45 minutes before reaching a unanimous verdict Wednesday. Continue reading Jame Exline guilty of two counts of sex abuse

Persons paid fines for scheduled traffic violations during the week ending June 7 as follows: Shane Christopher Jewett of Paton, open container of alcohol (driver), $200; *Jorge Octavio of Omaha, NE, no valid driver’s license, $200; *Steven Harold Murpy of Jefferson, failure to maintain control, $100; and Garret Lane McDowell of Jefferson, use of electronic device while driving, $30. Greene County district court, week ending May 31

In Greene County district court Bradley Keith Langfitt, 47, of Dana was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Langfitt was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE) and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge. Court costs were $100. Drug charges filed against driver in crash that killed Paton farmer

The driver of a semi tractor-trailer that was involved in the accident last June 6 that killed Paton farmer Pat Fields has been charged in Greene County district court with possession of heroin- first offense (a serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (a simple misdemeanor).

Greene County district court, week ending May 24

In Greene County district court James Michael Lefeber, 36, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree, amended from burglary- first degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years. He must reside at a residential correctional facility until he obtains the maximum benefits. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Lefeber was fined $750with a $262.50 surcharge. The court ruled he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $615.25. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Thursday, May 31: At 12:24 am a deputy investigated a go-cart on the streets in Scranton. At 12:42 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Dana. At 12:53 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 and X Ave east of Grand Junction. Sydney Schiltz, 18, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2013 Nissan Altima.
