Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 14

In Greene County district court Suanne Elaine Winters, 46, of Glidden was sentenced to five years in prison after she entered an Alford plea to a charge of burglary- third degree. (In entering an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit committing a crime, but believes that given the facts in the county attorney’s information, a jury would find her guilty of the crime.) The prison term is concurrent to a term in a Guthrie County case. Winters was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 6

In Greene County district court Bryan Gene Snell, 33, of Coon Rapids was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- third offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must live at a residential correctional facility until he receives the maximum benefits. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse he has already undergone, and he must attend a community college drinking driver’s school. His driver’s license was revoked for six years. Two Waukee men charged with shooting in Jefferson Sunday night

Shots – 10 in all – were fired in a residential neighborhood in Jefferson Sunday night. No one was injured, but two tires were flattened. Arrest warrants have been issued for two males in connection with the incident.

According to the Jefferson police report, numerous callers advised of gun shots at 9:15 pm in the 100 block of S. Pinet St. Officers and sheriff’s deputies responded and spoke to a group of subjects in the area. Continue reading Two Waukee men charged with shooting in Jefferson Sunday night

Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 29

In Greene County district court Kimberly Ann Mustang, 38, of Des Moines was sentenced to two days in jail Nov. 28 after she pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. She may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. She must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation she has already undergone and she must complete a community college drinking drivers school. Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 23

In Greene County district court David Michael Cannon, 39, of Grand Junction was sentenced Nov. 17 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. Cannon was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. He must also pay $456.59 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $592.59 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Police blotter – November 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Thursday, Nov. 30: At 6:04 am a resident reported a vehicle that was parked on the side of the road running for 45 minutes in the 900 block of N. Pinet St. Upon arrival, officers located a 2008 Jeep Liberty on the side of the road with the engine still running. Officers noticed a male in the back seat of the car passed out. They attempted to wake him up, but the vehicle was locked and he would not respond to the officers’ knocks on the window. The officers gained entry into the car to check his welfare. Officers located Justin Ray Lopez, 19, of Jefferson in the back seat of his vehicle. The officers were able to wake him and found him to be intoxicated. Continue reading Police blotter – November 2017
