Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 14

In Greene County district court Kaleb Brook McKinsey, 27, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to one charge of forgery. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, *192.80 restitution to Hy-Vee, $443.91 restitution to WalMart, and restitution to be determined for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Greene County magistrate court, week ending Sept. 14

In Greene County magistrate court Karah Jean Brown was found guilty at a trial of trespass. She was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She was found not guilty of criminal mischief- fifth degree and harassment- third degree.  The case was initiated in district court on charges against Brown of burglary- second degree and harassment- first degree, as well as trespass. In Greene County district court persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Jesse Lynn Crawford, 31, of Scranton, assault while participating in a felony (two counts), willful injury, burglary- first degree and harassment- first degree; Jordan Thomas McCleeary, 26, of Des Moines, operating while intoxicated- first offense; and Ryan David Baugh, 40, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense. In Greene County district court Johnathan Dale Laue, 40, of Grand Junction was sentenced Aug. 25 to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone and he must complete a community college drinking driver’s school. In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Aug. 30 against Corrina Lee Evans of Lytton on a charge of theft- fifth degree. A warrant had been issued Nov. 5 and was returned Aug. 21. Evans was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She must also pay $50 restitution to Doc’s Stadium. Court costs were $60. Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 24

In Greene County district court information is available that a judgment was entered Aug. 11 against Richard J. Sabus, 54 of Churdan after he entered an Alford plea* to a charge of theft-second degree. Sabus was sentenced to five years in prison; the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. Sabus was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. He must pay $5,999.86 restitution to Rueter’s Red Power and $180 court costs. Sabus was initially charged with theft- first degree and two counts of possession of stolen property. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Thursday, Aug. 31: At 5:17 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of 8th St in Scranton. 

Wednesday, Aug. 30: At 11:04 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop and arrested Tunney Merrill, 18, of Mapleton for possession of a controlled substance- first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying weapons*. Police blotter – August 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Thursday, Aug. 31: At 2:37 pm staff at A&W reported an abandoned bicycle there. The officer placed the bike in the impound lot. At 5:44 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported a female had just left the store without paying for her groceries. The officer made contact with the female at her residence. Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 17

In Greene County district court Jacob Monroe Cullum, 31, of Paton was sentenced Aug. 15 to 90 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- serious, amended from domestic abuse assault display or use weapon. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. Cullum was fined $315 with a $110.15 surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $414.35 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Aug. 8 against Edward Eugene Goff of Jefferson on a charge of harassment- third degree. Goff was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge. Court costs were $134.50.

In an unrelated case against Goff he pleaded guilty to a charge public intoxication- first offense, amended from a charge of public intoxication- second offense initiated in district court in June.
