In Greene County magistrate court Kole Alexander Higgins of Grand Junction was sentenced Sept. 27 to two days in jail on a charge of interference with official acts. He must pay $96 in sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge. Court costs were $60. A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed. Greene County district court, week ending Oct. 4

In Greene County district court Logan Eric Warland, 29, of Fort Dodge was sentenced to two five-year prison terms after he changed his plea to guilty to burglary- third degree and one count of criminal mischief- second degree. The prison terms are consecutive, but concurrent to any other sentences. Warland was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge on each count. The fines and surcharges were suspended, but he must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge on each count and $622.32 court costs. In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Oct. 2 against Michael C. McAtee of Grand Junction on a charge of domestic abuse assault- first offense. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge. Court costs were $60. (Magistrate Jessica Morton)

Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 26

In Greene County district court Bryce Colton Murano, 21, of Woodward was sentenced Sept. 25 to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers school. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time and community college course. Greene County magistate court, week ending Sept. 26

In Greene County magistrate court a judgment for a $65 fine with a $22.75 surcharge was entered against Rene Omar Guzman of Paton on a charge of assault. He must also pay restitution not to exceed $300 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $109.06 court costs. (Sentencing: Magistrate Jessica Morton)

Police blotter – September 2019

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Monday, Sept.30: At 9:05 am a resident advised she had captured a stray dog in the 600 block of S. Olive St. The animal placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 3:55 pm an officer was requested to meet with a juvenile male at Greene County Middle School. The juvenile reported another male juvenile had pushed him off of his bike and then rode away with it. Bristol township clerk resigns; wife faces criminal charges

An investigation of delinquencies by Bristol Township in its payments for fire protection services has led to criminal charges against Christine Durlam, 51, the wife of township clerk Justin Durlam.

Christine Durlam is charged with theft- first degree and fraudulent practices- third degree. Justin Durlam told Greene County sheriff deputy Shane Allen, who investigated the case, that he knew his wife had been writing checks on the township’s account for a couple of years. Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 9

In Greene County District court Erick Paul Johnson, 48, of Jefferson was sentenced Sept. 6 to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of dependent adult abuse- serious. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for one year. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. Johnson was also found guilty of dependent adult abuse- simple. On that charge he was sentenced to 10 days in jail; he must pay sheriff’s room and board charges for the time he serves. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge; both were suspended. A judgment was entered for $10,032.53 victim restitution He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney not to exceed $1,600. A judgment was entered in Greene County magistrate court against John Emery Welch of Grand Junction on a charge of assault- simple. He was placed on probation with Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge.
