Sheriff’s report – May 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Wednesday, May 31: At 6:16 am a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Chicago St and Eagle St in Scranton. Jeffrey Hartl, 50, of Coon Rapids was southbound on Eagle St in his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer when he was struck by Frank Adamson, 48, of Scranton, who was eastbound on Eagle St driving a 2009 Dodge Journey. Hartl’s vehicle rolled onto its roof and was totaled. Damage to Adamson’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Hartl was cited for failure to yield right of way. Police blotter – May 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Wednesday, May 31: At 3:52 pm Mike Nicolini of Massillon, OH, reported his vehicle had been struck while parked at the Super 8 hotel. The 2001 Honda Accord sustained a reported $1,500 in damages. At 5 pm a complainant reported $300 in change missing from his garage in the 500 block of S. Chestnut St. The officer is investigating. Greene County magistrate court, week ending May 18

In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered May 10 against Zachary Jeremiah Danner of Grand Junction on two counts of criminal mischief. On each count he was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. He must also pay $200 victim restitution. Greene County district court, week ending May 18

In Greene County district court Lyric Marie Stier, 21, of Marshalltown was sentenced May 16 to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating without owner’s consent. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. Stier was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She must pay $500 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $432.95 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Greene County district court, week ending May 11

In Greene County district court Steven Craig Gibson, 52, of Guthrie Center was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of gambling- false statement on employment application. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. Gibson was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Greene County magistrate court, week ending May 11

In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered May 10 against Jackson Devon Walsh of Ankeny on a charge of criminal mischief- fifth degree. He was fined $100 with a $35 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. He must also pay $200 restitution to the victim and $103 court costs. Greene County district court, week ending May 4

In Greene County district court Victorino Pena Perez, 39, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment May 4 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulent practice- third degree, amended from fraudulent practice- second degree. He was placed on informal probation. He just pay a civil penalty of $625 and a Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge of $125. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Greene County magistrate court, week ending May 4

A case was initiated in magistrate court during the week ending May 4 against Ricky Eugene Comer of Grand Junction on a charge of trespass.

Persons paid fines for scheduled traffic violations during the week ending May 4 as follows: Samuel Lewis Carter of Jefferson, failure to provide proof of financial liability, $250; Tommie Lee Peterson of Perry, operation without registration card or plate, $50; Craig Skalla of Scranton, speed, $120; Cory Schwering of Lake City and Brittany Leigh Meythaler of Windsor Heights, operate non-registered vehicle, $50; and Denae Michelle Rosdail of Carroll, dark window or windshield, $50. Greene County district court, week ending April 27

In Greene County district court Pamela Kay Johnson, 60, of Fort Dodge was sentenced two 90 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty April 24 to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended. She can completed a 48-hour weekend offender program in lieu of jail time. She must also follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation she has already undergone and she must complete a community college drinking drivers school. She will be on informal probation for one year. Johnson was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). She must pay $536.30 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A.
