In Greene County district court a judgment was entered Dec. 14 against Leah Meredith Kurt, 25, of Ames after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail; all the two days were suspended and she was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. She must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time she serves, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 13

In Greene County district court the following persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment during the week ending Dec. 13: Ruth Marie Fischer, 42, of Paton, operating while intoxicated- first offense; Crystal Ann Jordan, 33, of Scranton, child endangerment causing injury; Rodney Dean Halterman, 18, of Grand Junction, drug distribution violation to person younger than 18; and Christopher Richard Sowers, 46, of Grand Junction, possession of methamphetamine- second offense and driving while license barred. Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 6

In Greene County district court Malissa Lou Brooks, 41, of Ames  was sentenced Dec. 6 to 30 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense, amended from possession of marijuana- third offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. The two days jail time is concurrent to jail time in another Greene County case. She must pay sheriff’s room and board and complete any recommended drug abuse treatment at her own expense. Brooks was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $1,200 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $342.13 court costs. Jefferson police officers wrote 15 citations and issued 90 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Project Nov. 18-25.

Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 29

In Greene County district court Ryan James Brown, 46, of Jefferson was sentenced Nov. 20 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for two years. He was fined $625with a $218.75 surcharge. In the same case Brown was sentenced to one year in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a  charge of possession of marijuana- second offense. That prison term was also suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for two years. Should  Brown serve the prison terms they will be consecutive. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined$315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. In Greene County magistrate court Jerimiah Lynn Jordan of Scranton was sentenced to two days in jail on a charge of domestic abuse assault-  first offense. He must pay sheriff’s room and board charges for the time he serves. He must also complete a batterers education program at his own expense. Jordan was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $100 domestic abuse assault surcharge. He must pay $137.40 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Deputy cited after taking antlers from a car-deer accident

Greene county sheriff’s deputy Kirk Hammer has been cited for unlawful possession of whitetail deer antlers in connection with an incident Nov. 3.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources,  a DNR conservation officer received a call from a man who came upon a scene of a woman who had hit a deer on Highway 4  between 185th and 190th Sts. north of Jefferson. The man waited for a sheriff’s deputy to arrive. Once the deputy arrived, the man asked the deputy about a salvage tag. Greene County sheriff’s deputy Kirk Hammer declined to issue him salvage tag. Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 22

In Greene County district court Tony Lynn Hatting, 45, of Scranton was granted a deferred judgment Nov.20 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault- serious. He was placed on informal probation for one year and must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program at his own expense. He must pay a $65 civil penalty and a $100 domestic abuse surcharge. In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Nov.21 against Pamela Jean Haakma, no home town given, on a charge of theft- fifth degree. She was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She must also pay $300 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $96 court costs.

Cases were initiated in magistrate court as follows: Emma Michelle Webb of Anita, possession of drug paraphernalia; and Mark Christopher Frohwein of Churdan, possession of drug paraphernalia.
