In Greene County district court on Aug. 24 Jesus Moises Zuniga Jr, 19, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of conspiracy to deliver marijuana. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). The judge ruled he in unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney. A charge of obstructing prosecution was dismissed. Greene County magistrate court, week ending Aug. 30

In Greene County magistrate court Jacob Steven Kimmes of Carroll paid a $65 judgment with a $22.75 surcharge on a charge of consumption of alcohol in a public place. Courts costs were $67.25.

Driver in fatal accident found guilty on drug charges

The truck driver involved in the accident in which Paton farmer Pat Fields was killed last summer could be sentenced to up to a year and a month in jail following a trial held Thursday in Greene County district court.

Troy Michael Shaw, 26, of Harcourt waived his right to a jury trial and was found guilty by the Honorable Joseph B. McCarville in a trial by testimony of possession of heroin. Trucker dumps scrap metal on Hwy 30 in one-vehicle accident

A trucker hauling scrap metal on Highway 30 rolled his truck and dumped scrap metal on the roadway this morning, with enough mess to close the road to traffic early this morning.

According to Greene County sheriff Jack Williams, he, deputies, Greene County EMS, and the Jefferson fire and police departments responded to the accident near L Ave, two miles west of Jefferson, at 3:58 am.  Continue reading Trucker dumps scrap metal on Hwy 30 in one-vehicle accident

Greene County magistrate court, week ending Aug. 22

In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Aug. 15 against Stevie Renee Hibner of West Des Moines on a charge of theft- fifth degree. She was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She must also pay $5 victim restitution to Hy-Vee. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments in Greene County district court during the week ending Aug. 22 as follows: Chad Christopher Louk, 42, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; James Kenneth Harris, 31, of Woodward, domestic abuse assault- second offense;  and Hayley Lynn Brown, 25, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated- first offense. Sheriff’s report – August 2018

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Friday, Aug. 31: At 9:26 am a deputy investigated a theft on Highway 4 near 305th St in Franklin Township. At 3:53 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on 300th St and Taft Ave in Washington Township. Steven Smith, 41, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while barred*. He was also cited for operating a non-registered vehicle and failure to provide proof of insurance. At 7:19 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 400 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township. At 7:22 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Grand Junction. Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 16

In Greene County district court Gary Lee Bundy Jr, 45, of Jamaica was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge after he pleaded guilty Aug. 14 to a charge of theft- fourth degree, amended from theft- third degree. He must also pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $350.25 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, $425 victim restitution, and $322.30 court costs. Greene County magistrate court, week ending Aug. 16

In Greene County magistrate court Amanda Andrean Abrams of Panora was granted a deferred judgment Aug. 13 after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed on self probation for six months. A judgment was entered for a $65 civil penalty. She must also pay $100 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $95 court costs. A charge in district court of possession of marijuana- second offense was dismissed with court costs assessed to the state as part of a plea agreement. Greene County district court, week ending Aug. 9

In Greene County district court Rexo Lucas Mackey, 38, of Gueda Springs, KS, was sentenced Aug. 6 to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to one county of identity theft. All but 30 days of the jail time was suspended and he was place on probation for two years. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. Mackey was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $1,002.81 victim restitution  and $750 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees.
