Relay for Life committee plans virtual fundraiser

Like most public events, the Relay for Life of Greene County planned for April 24 needed to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 Relay for Life, with a tagline “We are HOPE!”, is now slated for Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 9 pm at the Greene County Community Center.

The pace of life has slowed due to the pandemic, but cancer hasn’t. The American Cancer Society’s commitment to providing support to cancer patients and their caregivers, and to fund research, is as strong as ever. The need for funding is also as strong as ever.

The local Relay for Life team will host a virtual event, “Ready, set, HOPE!”, Friday, May 15, at 8 pm on Facebook. “Ready, set, HOPE!” will be a kick-off for 2020 fundraising. All funds raised through the event will be added to the 2020 total.

“During this difficult time, cancer won’t stop, and neither will we,” said Tina Coleman, senior community development manager for the American Cancer Society, who assists the Greene County event leadership team. “Even though we cannot currently be face-to-face, we’re committed to continuing to fight cancer head-on and hope you will stand together with us, even when we’re apart.”
