Scranton library to remain closed

The Marchant Memorial Library closed its doors to the public on Wednesday, March 18, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a hard decision to make, but we needed to consider the health and safety of our employees and our community. The Library board of trustees and the library director have worked together to come to the decision that the library will remain closed at this time. The Board will discuss re-opening strategy at the next board meeting on Monday, May 11, at 6 pm. We want to thank our patrons and the Scranton community for their patience as we discuss our re-opening strategy.

We will continue to offer our curbside delivery service for patrons who call, email, message us on Facebook, or reserve their library materials online at our website. Our online services will continue to be offered as well, including online databases, our e-book and audio book service, information links, and 24/7 WiFi available at the library.

The library staff reminds residents to fill out their census by internet or by phone. The 2020 Census helps the city of Scranton and the library directly by ensuring all our citizens are counted. It only takes a couple minutes to complete the census, but the effects for Scranton will be long-lasting. These numbers will be used to determine federal and state funding for the next 10 years, which is a pretty big deal for a small community like ours. ~Wendy Johnson, director
