Jeff library to remain closed

Jefferson public library director Jane Millard announced Friday morning the library will remain closed rather than reopening May 1 as allowed by Gov Kim Reynolds’ April 24 executive order.

The library has been closed since March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The healthy and safety of the community and the library staff is our highest priority,” Millard said in making the announcement.

The library will continue to offer limited services until it reopens to the public, including curbside pickup and delivery of library materials. Patrons can call the library at 515-386-2835 weekdays from 9 am to 6 pm to make arrangements to check out books, movies, magazines, puzzles and board games. No overdue fees will be charged while the library is closed.

The library board of trustees will discuss a date to reopen at its regular meeting May 11 at 6:30 pm. “The board recognizes the importance of the library and its services to the community and would like to thank the public for their understanding during this time,” the press release concluded.
