Greene County district court, ending April 20

In Greene county district court Daniel Joseph Brownfield, 39, of Ogden was sentenced April 16 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for two years. Brownfield was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $500 restitution, and $143.72 court costs. A charge of burglary- third degree was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph L. Tofilon)

Jason William Kruse, 26, of Nevada was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The jail time is concurrent to a sentence in a Polk County felony case. Kruse was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Joshua Jay Blumberg, 24, of Coon Rapids was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, habitual offender. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for five years. He must reside in a residential treatment facility until maximum benefits are attained, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $1,000 with a $350 surcharge; both were suspended. Blumberg must pay a $125 LEI surcharge.

Blumberg was also sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation concurrent to that in the methamphetamine charge, but consecutive to probation ordered in another Greene County case. He was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Gina C. Badding)

Joshua Geigle, 28, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on probation to Greene/Boone County probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must pay a $315 civil penalty and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Yasday Sorter, 29, of Des Moines pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of marijuana- second offense, theft- first degree, and driving while license barred. A trial date was set for Aug. 25.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Julie Diane Mulder, 50, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated- first offense; Michael C. McAtee, 58, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Yasday Sorter, 29, of Des Moines, burglary- second degree and theft- second degree; Joshua Troy Smithson, 42, of Lakota, driving while license barred; and James Pena, 22, of Jefferson, child endangerment.
