Postponements, cancellations due to COVID-19 told

Cancellations and closures due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 have been announced as follows:

The Staley’s Chicken dinner hosted by the Jefferson Kiwanis Club has been postponed to Sunday, May 31. Tickets for the March 22 date will be honored; more tickets are available.

The Churdan public library will be closed until further notice. Staff can be reached through Facebook and email will be checked daily. Staff will be at the library limited hours each day, so messages can also be left by calling 515-389-3423.

The National Weather Service has cancelled the Severe Weather Week drill scheduled for Wednesday, March 25.

Java & Juice Friday morning gatherings are suspended until further notice.
A community meeting to discuss the future of the Greene County Middle School gym slated for March 25 has been postponed to a later date.

The Greene County Historical Society has postponed all schedule programs through early May. According to Historical Society president David John, there are five programs scheduled between now and May 1. The organization will attempt to re-schedule them later in the year.

All ISU Greene County Extension programs now through the end of March have been canceled due to the COVID-19 virus. “Keeping our constituents and staff well and safe is our top priority” stated Lori Mannel, Greene County Extension director.

Greene Leadership scheduled for March 19 and 26 will be scheduled at a later date. “What About Me?” March 20 and 27 programs will also be rescheduled. March 27 Ag Coffee on Water Quality will be canceled and not rescheduled. All Greene County 4-H meetings and activities will be canceled or postponed.

The Extension office will remain open to the public with normal business hours, Monday-Friday 9 am-4:30 pm. Persons who want more information can call the Extension office at 515-386-2138.

The Plant Doctor program planned by the Thomas Jefferson Gardens board for March 23 is postponed.

The Greene County Ducks Unlimited banquet has been postponed from April 4 until June 20.

The Raccoon Valley Powersports Garage and Mancave Tour slated for Saturday, March 28, has been postponed until the autumn.

The Technology Association of Iowa has postponed its awards gala from April 9 to June 23. Jefferson is a finalist for Technology Community of the Year along with West Des Moines, Story City and Cedar Valley.
