Changes made by the Iowa State Legislature have potential candidates for political and non-political offices rushing to get signatures before the deadlines this month. The filing period for public offices for the June 2 primary and the Nov. 3 general elections are fast approaching.

Any Republicans or Democrats running for federal or state offices have until Friday, March 13, at 5 pm to submit nomination papers to the Iowa Secretary of State’s office.

Candidates running as a Republican, Democrat or Non-Party Political Organization for county offices for either the primary or general elections must file nominations by Wednesday, March 25.

Greene County offices up for election include auditor Jane Heun, sheriff Jack Williams and supervisors Mick Burkett, District 1; John Muir, District 4, and Peter Bardole, District 5.

According to the auditor’s office, all incumbents have taken out papers.

Republicans must obtain at least 41 signatures. Democrats need a minimum of 25.

The big change is requiring the non-political offices to file in March. Those running for the Greene County hospital board of trustees, Greene County soil and water commissioner and township trustees have until Friday, March 20, at 5 pm to file nomination papers with the county auditor’s office.
