Ray Busch, 1942 – 2020

Ray Busch, 77, of rural Ogden, passed away February 8, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Raymond Carl Busch was born July 6, 1942, son of Fritz and Rose (Hoefle) Busch. Ray was the youngest of three children and attended elementary school in Beaver and then attended in Grand Junction, where and was crowned Homecoming King and graduated in 1960.

On December 15, 1962, Ray married Judy Groves of Rippey in Grand Junction at the Presbyterian Church. They lived in Beaver for three years then moved to a farm south of Beaver where they raised four daughters, farmed, and had livestock. Ray and Judy retired from farming in 2010.

Ray will be remembered for his adventurous hobbies that included driving race cars, flying ultralight airplanes, and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed several motorcycle trips with Judy; some trips were even during the winter. They belonged to several different motorcycle clubs over the years. They were named 2010 Iowa Chapter Family of the Year for the Gold Wing Touring Association. Ray enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and fishing in Beaver Creek, especially with his grandkids. He had a very unique sense of humor and always had a joke to tell.

Ray is survived by Judy, his wife of 57 years; daughters Brenda Slight (Mike) of Boone and Deb (Jeff) Lindgren, of Theresa (Brad) Boettcher and Sharon (Charlie) Larson, all of Ogden; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren (and one on the way); sister Clara Clark of Ogden; sister-in-law Madilyn Busch of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation was  held  at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Per Ray’s wishes, he was cremated and will be buried during a private family service at the Beaver Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions will be given to the Ogden EMS Association.
