Ram wrestlers set new record

The Greene County wrestling team set a new record, reaching 20 dual meet victories in a season. The Rams are 20-4 after winning two of three dual meets in Story City on Jan. 14. Their previous mark for most wins in a dual meet season for the Rams was 19-5 in 2012-13.

The Rams picked up a 51-18 victory over West Central Valley in non-conference action. They also topped host Roland-Story 52-28, but fell to North Polk (Alleman) 46-33. Greene County finishes 5-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meets, good for third place behind Gilbert and NP.

Five Greene County wrestlers went 3-0 on the night. Brenner Gallagher (113), Sawyer Schiltz (220), and Matt Naberhaus (285) each posted two pins and a win by forfeit. McKinley Robbins (106) pinned one competitor and received two forfeits. Brady Stauffer (138) recorded two decisions, 10-6 and 4-2, plus a win by forfeit.

The Rams traveled to Jewell Jan. 17 for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament hosted by South Hamilton. Greene County finished fourth out of eight teams. The Rams were just 1-1/2 points behind third place PCM. Gilbert won the competition and North Polk was second.

Each of the nine Ram wrestlers competing placed in the top six. Sawyer Schiltz pinned his way to the 220-pound championship. McKinley Robbins won first place in the 106-pound class.
