Dems slate Caucus Countdown mock caucus

Tell Feb. 3 caucus locations

All voters planning to participate in the upcoming Democratic caucus are invited to Caucus Countdown Monday, Jan. 20, to become familiar with the changes implemented for the 2020 caucus.

Caucus Countdown will be held at Jefferson city hall in the second floor council room. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the Caucus Countdown will start at 7. Dale Hanaman, who will be temporary chair of the east precinct on Caucus Night, will serve as chair at Caucus Countdown.

“There are some big changes in how we’ll caucus this time,” Greene County central committee chair Chris Henning said. “One of the bigger changes is that there will be only one realignment after we determine candidates’ viability. We want people to see what that will look like.”

Caucus Countdown will include candidate alignment, although the “candidates” will be something not even closely related to politics.

Caucus Countdown is open to everyone – like the actual caucus – but only registered Democrats will be able to participate in candidate selection, again, like at the actual caucus.

Voters who are not registered as Democrats can change their voter registration at the county auditor’s office through Feb. 3, at Caucus Countdown, or on Caucus Night.

Henning also announced caucus locations for the Feb. 3 Democratic caucus.
Locations are:
• Jefferson 1 – Greene County High School cafeteria
• Jefferson 2 – Greene County High School media center
• Jefferson 3 – Greene County High School auditorium
• Central – Jefferson city hall
• North – Churdan library meeting room
• West – Scranton Community Center
• East – Grand Junction Community Center

Doors will open at 5:30 pm. Persons must be registered or in the registration line by 7 pm to participate.

Persons who want more information can contact Henning at 515-370-2436.
