Vet affairs officer, commission work toward better communication

Greene County veterans affairs officer Mike Bierl and the Greene County veterans commission want to improve communication and increase awareness of veteran resources, benefits, and activities for all military veterans in the county.

Veterans who want to receive emails containing veteran affairs newsletters and other helpful information such as veteran local/statewide events, benefit updates, healthcare updates, education benefits and more are encouraged to send their email address to Bierl at mbierl@co.greene.ia.us. Email addresses will be kept private and will not be shared with other agencies. Information will be emailed as it is received or created.

For the convenience of veterans, veterans commission meeting agendas and minutes are now available for viewing on the Greene County website at https://greenecounty.municipalcms.com. Hover over “Government” on the top left side, click on “Departments”, scroll down to “Veterans Affairs”, and click on the highlighted blue area for commission minutes and/or agendas.

Veterans commission meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 10 am in the courthouse. Bierl asks veterans to email him with items of concern or ideas to share.

Bierl is available in the veterans affairs office on the first floor of the courthouse Monday through Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. He can be reached by phone at 515-386-5673. His fax number is 515-386-2216.
